At least 15 mins is good, but try and keep to closer to 30mins or more idealy. Every day is good for building up your CV fitness and building up your muscles; runnign builds up muscles mainly in the legs and the core. Take at least one day a week off, and if you're not used to excercising then stick to once every other day for now.
Cardio will not magically switch from burning calories available and breaking down fat to breaking down muscles. It will first use all the calories in your muscles and blood, then it will start to break down fat. If it has broken down all the fat in your body and ran out of getting calories from fat it will start breaking down muscle. To use all the calories stored and all your bodies fat stores on a standard daily run is extremely unlikely; unless there is something criticly wrong with your nutrition and your body fat levels are dangerously low (which is dropping below 5-8% men or 15-18% women).
Warm up for a 30min run should be about 5 mins gently jogging to get into it, some DYNAMIC stretching if you feel tight, do not static stretch until the warm down. at the end do another 5 min slow jog then run through some static stretches before finsihed.

well, everyother day is the best way to run. But 15 minutes isn't enough. It is recomended that you run for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. The reason is this, at 15 minutes, you are subjecting your body to a quick rush of needs, then stopping. This sets up a pattern which can lead to heart problems. You need to get your heart pumping for 30 minutes, this helps it to develop into a proficient pump that will supply the bodies needs without being over stressed. I timed my run to find out how far I needed to run round trip to give me the minimum workout I needed, then added to that to fit how far I really wanted to run. My run developed into 2 1/2 miles down the road, then 2 1/2 miles back every other day. In addition, one day per week, I added and additional lap around a nearby field.

30 minutes is a good idea. Just remember to warm up for about 10-15 minutes, and cool down for about 10-15 minutes as well.

It keeps your cardio system in shape, allowing your body to more efficently move the oxygenated blood to your muscles and allowing you to continue longer. It also keeps your muscles used to contracting on a repeated basis. One of the two types of type II diabetes is due to muscles developing glucose resistance. Exercising at least every 48 hours helps to prevent that from developing.
I more note is that you need to be doing at least 20 minutes each time to get the full cardio benefit.

Cardio is good for the heart and it's also a good fat burner. The only problem with cardio is if you go too long your body starts to burn muscle instead of fat. Don't run for more than 40 minutes at a time and you'll be fine.
