does god allow you to be addicted to cigarettes and alcohol or TV or internet but not "drugs"?

I hear so many religious arguments against drugs because it is evil or the tools of satan, but according to that logic isn't the tools that bring us YA, that you post on the same thing? If there is a "little bit" of wine or internet, why not a little bit of drugs or reality tv?

being against the law doesn't make it wrong or right.

Under that line of thinking then christians need to concede that abortion is not wrong because it is legal. .Also prescription drugs and human growth hormone are not illegal, but can be used for illegal purposes or can become addictive. I'm merely pointing out the error in the "against the law" statement as it also leads to the ever popular, "does owning slaves" or having sex with a 5 year old make it right in your religion's eyes? Some countries allow it.

You are so true. It is wrong to be addicted to anything. My imam (Muslm "priest") told us that people have become slaves of their lowest desire (drugs, sex, inernet, addictions etc) rather than mastery of our highest selves. He said self-mastery learns to freedom from the dangers of society.

But more importantly you have to free yourself from being a danger to society. WHen one man is polluted so becomes the environment around it: contributing to its worsening state. He told me all humans are God's crowning glory of creation. Why then do we treat ourselves with such little respect? The Imam (who is black) had helped a hobo up from the ground one evening only to be called a "boy" and a N*****. The hobo asked him if that's ok and the Imam said it's fine. It has no meaning to him. If the hobo calle dhim a tree or book would that have offended him? No. SO why is the N word any different? It is US who fill these words with that. God did not create the N word. Humans did.

He went on to say that we add meaning to our lives. When someone asks who we are we should respond who we are in terms of God. Something he calls "knowing yourself in God." Your importance is not defined by worldly matters no...it is who we are as holy, spiritual creatures; and that is something we've lost.

SOrry this was long. I have a lot more to say but Ill stop. Good question!

Peace.

The Bible tells us to obey the laws of the land as long as they don't contradict God's law. That knocks out most of your argument right there. And just because it's legal, doesn't mean it's morally aligned with God (examples such as adultery and abortion).

The Bible also tells us to be self-controled. God gave us wisdom to know what is right or wrong. Anything can become addictive if we do it excessively. That's why it's smart to not start smoking because you can be come addicted. Alcohol can be also addictive, which is why there is AA.

Drugs shouldn't be anymore illegal than McDonalds is. The government has no right in deciding what you put into your body. Sure, drugs do have some negative effects, but if you don't want to risk your health, you can choose to not do drugs.

Drugs and alcohol cause people to take actions they wouldn't normally,ie: disobey Gods commands. It isn't so much about addiction, it's about obedience

Drugs are against the law. . . .duh. =)

I don't believe that smoking, drinking and such will send you straight to hell. As a believer I can say that there are things that I have done and could do that would limit my walk with the Lord. . .not send me to hell, but keep me from having the best I could w/ the Lord.

Freedom. . .isn't just about being able to do whatever you want to . . .Freedom is also having the ability to say no to things that will do nothing good for your life.
