I was in the marines and I tell you this. some people become intoxicated by the power of being higher in rank than many people, and do screw them over. but the majority of people higher in rank than myself were just about doing their job, not screwing with people.

Ball, while the military like all workplaces does have some bad leaders, the role of the NCO is to train and lead you. It is his job to look out for you.
Sometimes, he will make you do things you don't like and chew you out for things you think you should be able to do.
This is part of looking out for you. He must change certain attitudes and habits you may have to keep your chances of success and survival in the military as high as possible.
I should mention that soldiers often misunderstand this caring nature of their NCO's. Sometimes, they think the NCO is being mean when the NCO is giving them the very tough training that will keep them alive.
Now, occasionally he'll get a bad soldier and having attempted to help this soldier, he realizes that the guy just shouldn't be in the military and is a detriment to his teammates, both in the rear and even moreso in battle. For the sake of the safety of all, including that soldier, he will come down hard on the guy and do what is in his power to get him invited back to the civilian world, where he belongs.
So, the short answer is NO, the higher ranks do not screw over the troops, they look out for the troops. But yes, there are some bad leaders out there and those same NCO's will do what they can to minimize the effects the bad ones may have.

If you join, show up everywhere on time (15 min early), keep your mouth shut, do what you are told, and perform your job to the best of your ability and no one will mess with you. In fact many will go that extra to help you out.
The people who get "screwed" over and kicked out will always tell you how messed up the military is and how people mistreated them. What they do not tell you is that they are mostly the people who can not manage their finances, show up late, perform their job poorly, drink alcohol irresponsibly which leads to trouble, etc. As long as you distance yourself from those people and behaviors you will be successful in the military.
In my 14 years I have found that 10% of the people consume 90% of my time. I always provide additional training to these people and if they can not conform then yes, they will get booted. The military is not for everyone.
So, keep that in mind the next time a person tells you how the military "screwed" them.

We'll I wouldn't say that...
but sometimes the lower listed don't get enough credit.
When I was deployed to Kuwait. I got screwed out of a ARCOM (Army Commendation Medal). They said my job wasn't mission critical because I was a male clerk
(42 A) in the Army. My commander got a Bronze Star, and some of the officers did too. I was a loley SPC back then. Now I'm a SGT. But my point is that sometimes people need to look out for their soldiers.

Listen to daddius42.
I was also in the Marines and had never seen people get so drunk with power once they got promoted. I had a good friend named Josh who got promoted really quickly. He got so damn drunk with power he was an ****** and no one would even be around him.
It isn't much different than high school, you'll always have your jerks that just want to mess with people and get their way because they can, but by and large, most people are about getting the job done with as little trouble as possible.

it may ensue, besides the undeniable fact that it's not popular for a certainty although. the militia places 2 human beings, who're up for a merchandising, and the dept can in basic terms sell a million. they'll see who replaced into extra suitable in what container, and who merits the merchandising. human beings do think of they are getting screwed whilst they are up for merchandising, yet just to get shot down.

The military is like any other job. You have great people and you have jerks. Some jobs are fun and some suck.
You only get kicked out if you asked for it in some way.

It all depends on your supervisors and commanders. Hubby used to be put up for awards and such, and suddenly when he became a SNCO they stopped. Come to find out, he was so busy writing them and making sure his guys got stuff, he put himself in the backseat!!
Now, the guy that took his place when we PCSed? He didn't believe in putting people up for awards and giving atta boys. Hubby has gotten many emails from his guys wishing he was back!!
Officers are the same... some believe in giving all the credit to their troops and making sure they get what they have worked for, and others will take all the glory for themselves.

There is some screwing around, but most of it is all in fun and you will eventually do the same. If it is more serious, take it to someone higher and it will be immediately stopped.

screwed over how?
i think it would help if your provide an example.
however, every person is different and i've never heard of someone getting someone else kicked out, unless that person was doing stupid things and refused to get their act together. (there's one of them in my husband's squadron).
usually, if someone gets the boot, it's b/c THEY screwed up.
sure, there are moments, like my husband has been trying to get a change of shop and do some different things to help further his career, but his superiors kept railroading him b/c having him there makes THEM look good....
so, he went above them and we now have orders to a new base!
there's usually a way around things if you know the system.
take care.
EDIT:
besides, it's all stuff that you'll encounter in the private sector.
