Actually, I'm American and I have never slept on the job, even though I have found a lot of my jobs boring as hell. Thanks for the generalization.

it isnt just americans, and it has a lot to do with what job it is. if it is slow or repetative, in a quiet atmosphere, or a sit down job it is easy to get drowsy and possibly fall asleep. it could also do with stress levels, if they are getting enough sleep at home, family demands, health or mental issues. I have never seen anyone sleep on the job and ive had some boring sit down look at a computer all day long jobs. although i have found myself to start to nod off i catch myself and get up and stretch.
Please remember that if americans would have posted this question with whatever nationality you were from, it would probably be taken in offence and we would be called racist. it has nothing at all to do with nationality or culture.

Sleep on the job? Where do you get your information? We don't sleep on the job. We are very hard working. Of course, there are some lazy butts everywhere you go, but the majority of us are very industrious.
What the "h" does Shakespeare have to do with sleeping or not sleeping on the job?
I think you may be lost in translation, my friend.

Stereotyping everything much? Americans sleep on the job just as much as every other country on the planet. No more, no less. Try to keep a more open mind and not paint everyone with the same brush.

Why are all men named Rafael gay?? You can't generalize on a specific catagory. If I did I would say you are homosexual because every rafael I know is homosexual. Americans are known as being lazier but it's because compared to other countries we put in more hours... have longer commutes, shorter lunches, and a lot more responsibility outside of the home. I have never had someone fall asleep in any of the jobs that I have. So where are you getting your info???

Americans do so much more work than other countries that they can sleep on the job and still get more work done

I've only seen one person fall asleep on the job. The supervisor wrote him a note that said, "When you wake up you're fired." I don't know where you get that Americans sleep on the job but that's not true where I'm from.

What are your reasons for saying Americans sleep on the job? I think it depends on what the job is, not where. If my job was in a relaxed atmosphere where I could get away with it, I definatley would sleep.

More Americans per capita are in "sleep deficit" than in any other country. It is not only unhealthy, but dangerous!
