I had a hemerrhoidectomy in 2004. It was done outpatient, in a hospital and I went home that day. I've been too embarassed to mention this to anyone, but the truth is in the morning I usually develop such urgency that I can barely make it to the bathroom. The feeling comes so quick, and unfortunately there have been times when I wasn't fast enough and soiled my shorts. Stools are either solid or very very soft or watery, depending on what I've eaten (and drank) the previous day. What could have happened after the surgery that I can't 'hold it' any more? Could the MD have severed a nerve or some muscle? This was never the case with me, prior to the surgery.

I would hope that you have discussed this with your doctor long before now.

I had blocked intestine and 2 feet removed in Jan. This caused the same problem for me. I don't know if this would help in your case, but when it recurs I take CHOLESTYRAMINE POWDER. Ask your doctor.

I still have recurrences and have to watch my diet.
