The A line is there cheaper models. Nothing special about them other than to meet the lowest price point.

The F series, is their high end compact line. They use the larger, proprietary sensor and processing to get 2-3 stops better high ISO performance than ANY other compact digicam. F20, F31fd, F40. All of these instruments have some of the highest image quality of any compact digicam, and will rival the 6Mpix DSLRs.

the S series are their ultra-zoom cameras. The unique difference about Fuji and most of the others is that the 6000 and 9000 models have a MANUAL zoom (much better) that is wider (28mm) than most cameras. They also have better high ISO performance.

the E series was their more fully featured, high end compact line, but they are discontinued. The last one, the E900, was a fine and highly capable instrument in its day, but that day was 2 years ago.
