According to the Anatomy and Physiology Instructors' Cooperative, only one in-depth study regarding the possible detriments of knuckle popping has been published. This study, done by Raymond Brodeur and published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, examined 300 knuckle crackers for evidence of joint damage. The results revealed no apparent connection between joint cracking and arthritis; however, habitual knuckle poppers did show signs of other types of damage, including soft tissue damage to the joint capsule and a decrease in grip strength.

There have been many debates on this topic. The sound of 'cracking' that is made is just air and fluid passing through the joints as they are manipulated (pulled) Studies have shown that this leads to no detrimental or negative health issues. It may make the joints a little looser but no negative effects have been proven if you crack your knuckles.

Really? I've always heard that cracking your knuckles causes arthritis. It's unusually for any type of doctor to tell you that cracking your knuckles is ok!! My physical therapist says anything that cracks, anywhere, is bad. It means that your muscles in that area are weak. I am trying to stop myself, so my advice to you would be to try and stop because there is no way that it can be good for you. Good luck!
