You observe your dog, know how the pet acts normally. When the dogs behavior changes it is a good indication he/she is ill. Regular vet check ups are a good thing...

Aside from obvious symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea, a change in behavior can also signal that something is wrong with your dog. Has he stopped greeting you when you come home? Does he sleep much more than usual? Does he seem slow to move or lethargic? Has he started peeing/pooping in the house? Does he eat less or not at all? Does he drink more than usual? These are just a few things that can tip you off that there's something wrong. If you notice any changes in your dog's behavior, you should take him to the vet.

My dad taught me that a healthy dog's nose should be cool and wet to touch, if the nose is hot and dry to touch, then the dog is not feeling well.
Here are some other signs that shows a dog is sick:
- it is lethargic
- it is not eating
- it is vomiting
- it has abnormal stools: bloody stool, diarrhea, etc.
There are a lot of others, but those are the more easily noticeable ones.
Below is a link to Sick Dog Symptoms. Hope this helps.

My dog throws up all the time because he eats grass and dogs throw up for other reasons but they might not be sick.

If you know your dog, you should know when they are not acting as they normally do. For example, if they're not as excited to see you when you come home or if their favorite chase toy doesn't get them up. A lot of times they will lose their appetite as well. You should watch them when they go outside, "potty", and make sure everything looks normal. Good luck!

okay first u should check its noise to see if its hot, if so he might have a cold. some dogs sneeze to. and if throwing up happens there is something wrong with his eating maybe. um like a yelowish throwup i think is acid in his stomach. and if he needs to throw up just watch him when he goes out side. when ur dog eats grass its most likely because he wants to throw up whatever is in his system.

Well, a basic check of the canine's temp would be a good place to start. It should be 100 to 102 degrees. Also, monitor it's behavior - is it listless or lethargic? How about the stool & urine - is it normal & firm or soft & runny?

first off you will know the change in behavior, if the nose is hot and dry he has a fever, you can tell by the nape of the neck if he is dehydrated, if you pull up on the skin and it takes a few minutes to go back in place then he is dehydrated. hope this helps.
