the U.S.C.G. rescued down fighter pilots. There probably is not a lot of down pilots in Iraq. But if there is pilots down in Iraq do they use the U.S.C.G. to rescue them? Thanks..

No, they don't send USCG to rescue downed pilots in Iraq, unless they think they're downed near water, which is a small percentage of area for that country. Vietnam has a huge area of coastline compared to it's actual land territory, and there are a lot of rivers and inlets that would allow USCG personnel even better access.

For Iraq they will more likely use AF rescue teams.

The Navy was also on call to rescue down pilots. (Operation Olive Branch)
I was a CSAR Crewman/ Rescue Swimmer. I stood Alert to go in and get down aviators in IRAQ when I was in the Navy.
The Coast Guard patrolled in Viet Nam due to the large inland waterways and coastline.

I donot personally think the US CG is being used in Iraq for rescue operation there. Mostly I pressume they used the services of the Marine corps. in rescuing down pilots and the US Navy in helping salvage aircraft and personnel in the battlefield.

As far as rescuing goes, the closest unit to the rescuee would do that and no matter which branch of service. I do know that the USCG are responsible for port security and patrolling of the rivers.

I don't think so!

There are 6 cutters and 600 USCG in Iraq, or at least they were.

Their main job is port security!

And guess what their main job was in Iraq?

Secure the Mina-al-Bakr Oil Terminal in the northern Arabian Gulf!! Nope this isn't about oil!
