The Varicella Virus that causes Chicken Pox is only infectious during the incubation period, before the spots break out, not afterwards.
If your son shows no signs now, the chances are he is clear.

Well, usually, people in close contact with someone who has the chickenpox, will develop as well. The incubation time before a another catches it can be up until10 days or as little as 3-5 days. But, sometimes, a person who is exposed to the chickenpox, will not get it. This happened to both of my children when they were younger. Both had been exposed but, only one of them actually caught it. My other daughter never got it and had to have the vaccine. I hope that this helps.

Chicken pox is highly contageous, so it is quite possible that your three year old will get it between 10 and 21 days after exposure (usually 16 - 18 days). He is also more liable to to have a more severe case. You should contact your pediatrician. It may not be too late to give him partial protection from the chicken pox vaccine, or more likely, from taking acyclovir or similar anti-viral medication.

He might not get it, chickenpox is only contagious before the spots come out and can take up to 3 weeks to come out so if he's going to get them then you'll notice soon enough.

It is very likely he will get them unless he has been vaccinated and even then he could get a very mild case. The incubation period is 10 to 21 days after exposure. A person is most contagious right after symptoms start but remain contagious till blisters crust over.

It would depend on your other childs immune system at the time that your first child was infectious (when the spots are coming out) If your child was completely fit and healthy at that time it is very unlikely that your other child will get it, but never say never. If he does come out with spots it will be aprox 2 weeks later, just as the first childs spots are going.

I'm in the same boat!

My daugther has just had chicken pox and I've been told my son will probably get it 2 weeks after her.

It depends really on the amount of contact they have with each other as to his chance of getting it.

Hope they are both better soon. x

No, he won't definitely catch it but it is likely. My daughter caught it about 2 weeks after my other daughter and friends have had the same experience with their children.
