If the extension name is .zip or .rar than you must have win rar and win zip installed on your pc or a software called alzip can extract almost all compression and archiving format. Now supposing that you have that S/W installed. Create a folder for each program & copy the .zip or .rar in that folder. Rt click on the icon & in drop down menu choose extract here or extract in this folder, it will be extracted and you will get all relevent files By double clicking on setup or install.exe you can install that program on your PC.

Rarely a program will be available in EXE format on Limewire. Typically, programs will come in zip, rar, or iso format. Besides audio files, none of the above mentioned formats are safe. They can all contain viruses. Download at your own risk. Zip,rar and iso formats are convenient ways to put 100's of files into one file. Use Winzip to open zip files. Use WinRar to open rar files. Use WinISO or PowerISO or MagicISO to open iso files. You can also use Nero to burn the iso into a working CD. Extract the files, then there will be a setup.exe file like any other program. I would recommend Bittorent for programs rather than Limewire. Limewire is more ideal for small videos and music files.

Well, it is according to what the extension of the file is, in determining what will open it. Things that end in zip and rar are usually just files in which a bunch of files were lumped together to make it easier to transfer. just go to yahoo search engine and type in the file extension such as zip and rar and you should be able to find a free program that will extract the file. I use winrar i beleive it is free.
If it ends in .exe it should work automatically unless you are using a MAC when it is intended for a PC.

First, before you open any of them, scan for viruses.
.exe files are executable files and will either directl;y unzip to a specified folder, or they will immediately install.
Zip files can be opened with WinZip free trial download, and rar files can be opened with WinRar, also a free trial download.
Windows has it's own compression program, and all can be setup to open the others, in other words, if you download WinZip, you can open WinRar files with it.
SCAN FIRST!!!

Don't download .exe files on limewire, trust me, it's all a part of a virus program.
Frostwire is better, less viruses.

First and foremost: Scan with anti virus and anti spyware programs. You don't know what someone may have put into a file you are downloading
