The acid reducing drugs have histamine blockers, but I don't understand, if they do then why do you have a cough during the night & sneeze & blow your nose many time's? Why is that a side affect if it's blocking histamine?

Let me address the natural cure that you were interested in. I tried this, on advice from a homeopath, and it works.

Potato juice (raw), put it in a blender, add a little water, then strain. You can add honey, it is bland. A juicer works well too.

Or

Cabbage juice is equally helpful in helping the body produce a protective coating to your stomach. Put it in a blender and strain, no need to add extra water. It is bland, almost no taste.

The third thing you can do is train the valve to stay closed. I got this from a doctor. First thing in the morning, drink 8 oz water on an empty stomach. Then raise up on your toes and set back down on your heels quickly, to make the stomach drop. Do this 11 times. It forces the valve at the neck of the esophagus closed. To see this work, fill a balloon with water and hold it by the neck, bounce it. Same principal.

Everyone had great ideas on foods to avoid, they are all true. But I could not live my life avoiding all the things I loved.

Just a final note: Stress reduces the body's ability to make that protective coating in the stomach. Relaxation helps the body get back in balance again. Try a massage if you can afford one.

Good luck!

Hey,
I'm a medical researcher. It is widely agreed among physicians and medical paraprofessionals, that initial diagnosis, mostly by using a typical acid reflux symptoms questionnaire, is necessary to ensure the most effective and quick treatment for this condition. Approx 70% of the acid reflux diagnostics that are based on the presence of typical symptoms are accurate. Since acid reflux, also called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), can cause patients a great deal of discomfort and result in severe complications, it is highly important to know how to identify its symptoms in order to quickly diagnose and treat it.

If you know you have acid reflux you can try this natural program http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=568
Have a nice day

To reduce gastroesophageal reflux :
1- Do not lie down immediately after food.
2- Eat less spicy,fatty food.
3- Do not overeat.
4- Avoid acidic drink/food esp with an empty stomach.
5-Avoid fizzy drinks.
6- Last and certainly not least, avoid alcohol consumption.
You didn't mention the drug used as antireflux. There are several kinds of that class of medicine so a substitution may bring about less side ffects.

I think you are confusing H2 blockers with histamine. H2 blockers like Zantac and Tagamet reduce the production of stomach acid.

To my mind, a large percentage of acid reflux is due to excessive abdominal girth. Therefore, to reduce it, we should lose weight.

Other natural methods are to refrain from eating at night and to elevate the head of the bed.
