I think your gonna get alot of different answer's, BUT, most Bass-fishermen would probably agree that "soft plastic" worms and finesse lures would probably be #1.

An example of soft plastic's: Senko's or "dead-stick"-type worms , Ribbon-tailed "Culprit"-type worms, Scum Frog , soft swim-bait-type lures Storm Lures, Etc.

There are many variety's of "soft plastic's" & I don't know a Bass guy who doesn't own "at least" 5 different kinds!

Of course it depends on where you are fishing, the weather, time of year, water temp. ect. I think the best (most versitle?) is the zoom super fluke or that type of soft plastic. You can do many things to this bait to change the way it fishes. You can fish it like a suspending or slow falling jerk bait, you can put a small cut in the tail and fish it under water like a spinner bait or retreive faster and work it like a buzzbait. You can put a heavy weight on it and fish it like a jigging spoon, you can rig it texas style so it's weedless, you can fish it on a drop shot. You can even use it as a trailer on a spinner bait. It is a very versitile bait. Or put it on a jig and fish it that way.

I also have to agree with plastic worms. A close second would be a black and blue jig with a zoom super chunk trailer in blue sapphire. This time of year most people would agree that buzzbaits, spooks, poppers, and frogs are the favorite baits to throw.

My opinion is a Senko/yum dinger

Texas rig these weightless with a size 3/0 offset EWG (extra wide gap) hook and throw them in 6+ feet of water. Just throw them out, let it sink. Every now and then lift the rod tip and/or give a sudden jerk to trigger the bite. There has not been one color that i have use that didnt work

The versatility of soft plastics should make them the best under most conditions although at times a jig/craw or spinnerbait will produce better size bass.

If it is hardbaits you want and quality is your prime concern then Lucky Craft makes the best hard plastics.

the 3 best bass lures are mepps spinners(algies and black furys), yamamoto senkos(watermelon black), and poppers(megabass lures are the best but the cost a little more than luckycraft lures but all them do more then one thing).
