I agree with this as it would stop a lot of them escaping into the back ground when there case gets reviewed. I would set up camps that they are required to stay in until they have been processed, once approved then they should be allowed to settle but not given houses, a halfway house system like a hostel. Any failed would easily be sent back.

NairoGal, Geneva convention covers prisoners of war not asylum seekers, I think you mean the European charter of human rights.

I think that if an immigrant commits a serious crime ( I'm not talking about RTA speeding or parking) his permit to stay should be carefully re-examined with a view to it's cancellation. I would not be quite as severe as the questioner.

I think that US still has medical checks for immigrants and believe that this is sensible.

An illegal immigrant is always illegal and if caught must be deported.

Yes, if they do not want to abide by the British rules and system then they should not be allowed to be here and if they become a criminal problem then they should be sent back. AS for the Geneva convention ( NairoGal ) I live in Switzerland and that is what happens here and they are trying to make laws to send all Foreign trouble makers ASBO's back to there country of origin even if they were born here

i have seen many articles on how the current policy has been a critical component to your current problems, same with France. the problems seem to stem for the immigrates not wanting to assimilate to the country to which they have immigrated.

we are beginning to have the same issues in the USA. this same issue was addressed by one of our former presidents.

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Well, i know we used to screen immigrants who entered the USA through Ellis Island. My dad was one of them. I would hope it wouldn't become a policy for tourist travel or no one would travel anywhere.I do believe a country owes it to it's citizens to know who is entering their borders.Maybe shots before entering if their country of origin has any TB or other diseases. A touchy question.

Immigrants should be subjected to the word "no!"

It doesnt matter how we slice it ,there are too many already and not a single one has brought money or skills.Just hatred ,crime , terrorism a drain upon the economy and the disintegration of our own culture.

BTW ,thats the short non-abusive version

Of course it should; but you cannot expect such a sensible idea to be taken up by our crowd of PC loonies - Someone might be offended or have their human rights infringed!

I think that is a great idea but you know our politically correct politicians wont do that so vote BNP or any other party opposed to this kind of immigration.
