Hi!
I'm looking for a used starter car and I found someone who is offering me 3500-4000 on his 2002 honda civic ex. I've beentold it is worth about 6000 -7000 ish but im debating whether or not to get it because it has 171,000 miles on it. Theres just minor damage, a sunroof ,cd players, powerwheels and steering. All of that good stuff (lol)Any advice will be appreciated! Please no dumb remarks. Thanks, Laura

Surprisingly your friend was right about the retail price, but I personally think that its not worth $7000 as I found on www.nada.com
Anyway, $4K for this car is a good price and you better scoop it up now. 171,000 is alot of miles even though its only 5 years old. People assume Honda's will last forever, so hope that nothing major goes wrong until it gets to 225,000 or more miles.
Buy it and trade it in if you don't like it, but maybe the damage is what's bringing down the value.

Hi........I am a car wholesaler, the high mileage kills the value on this car. Book value on this car is close to $7,000 in perfect condition. Then you deduct the cost of repair of the bodywork, Honda's are generally very high to repair bodywise. Also, a dealer will deduct $75 for every 1,000 miles over the national average, which for this car would be near 65,000 miles. So, basically the car has "no value" if it were to be used as a trade in. i bet the seller already knows this. Considering the car would need to be adjusted for excessive mileage, 106x75 equals????? If you really want it, and it runs well, and all the maintainance has been done, you may consider buying it. Even though these cars are known for relability, and you may possibly get 250,000 miles out of it or more, you need to be full aware that this cars major lifespan is probably over, and future repairs could be costly. The most i would consider paying for this car would be about $1700, maybe up to $2,000 but not likely. You can get a 2000 or newer Dodge Neon or similar car for about $4,000, with 65,000 original miles on it, average. These are tough little cars, and with good maintainance will last a long time too. If i were you, i 'd be looking for a car with lower miles, just to be safe. Good Luck!!!

If you want an affordable car don't choose a Honda. Every Honda owner on the planet thinks their car is the best thing on the road and they inflate the value assuming you'll just pay it simply because it's a Honda. Look for a Nissan, Mazda or Mitsubishi and save yourself thousands of dollars.
