I wonder how deep my wallet would be without all of the "sponges",that claim that they will pay me back in "6" days?
...wait..uh oh..now I get it... Well, let's see, God has promised us 70 years or so..great,just great. I am so gullible.

The funny thing is if you use it as a ratio a lot of it meets with science.
Universe 14 billon
Earth and sun 4-5 billion
Man most recently
Bible creation day one. Earth and Sun day 4 (that's 2/3, same as with the science view). Man, the end of day 6.
The Bible's been saying the Earth and Sun were formed 2/3 of the way from creation and science has only been saying that for about 200 years maximum.
Not bad for a 3,000+ year old book.
You are aware the Atheist Cosmologist Carl Sagan proposed a 30 day calendar for creation in which Man came along in the first second of the first minute of the first hour of the last day and we are still in that hour.
Making fun of Dr. Sagan's 30 day cosmic calendar!

I've heard a comment like this before, and I always considered it to be someone's light-hearted joke. I don't think anyone would be serious about sponges affecting the ocean's depth. How exactly is this saying based on a literal 6 day creation? I don't get it.

Humans view time differently than the creator. Time measurement as we know it is a man made invention. The Genesis record was written for a simple desert people, in terms that they could relate too. The apostle Peter expanded on how Jehovah might view time.
(2 Peter 3:8) 8 However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.
Even though Peter was divinely inspired he was still working within the limitations of the human mind. So you see, my heart tells me that we just have no concept of how long
God's creative days were. BTW, I love the statement about the sponges.

God never left it up to man to feel his way to understanding. He has always told man what is right and what is wrong. God has either lied to us and told us He created everything in six days, or it is the truth. The "heart" spoken of in the Bible is the mind--something that can reason and understand the inner, most important things. The notion that God told people six days when it was actually billions of years or more is ridiculous. He could have just said a long time, but he did not. Believe the Bible, and thus in God, or don't believe. We are not able to pick and chose who God is and what He can and can not do. The Ocean would be wider, not deeper silly!

2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God very clearly say "six days," regarding creation, but He also tells us that His time is not our time. In one verse He says that a thousand of our days are as one of His, etc. He clearly did not work in man's time frame We can only speculate as to the actual calendar measured time which well could have been thousands or even millions of year as we measure it..
