White onions are the most versatile in terms of what they can be used for. Garlic is a herb that really only works in a few specific dishes. Green onions don't cover quite a large range of dishes as the white onion and, in my opinion, are not quite as nice-tasting.

By far, garlic is the best for you. It has properties that are good for blood pressure so it is heart friendly. I have also heard it has anti-oxidants in it as well,...a good thing :o)
