I've found that to be especially true on here where people don't know you. I've made a new rule for myself. When I think someone is being rude with their Q or A I will go back into their other Q's and A's and see if they tended to have other rude Q's and A's. If not I will presume they didn't intend it that way.

I wonder the same thing. Generally the majority of answers I have received so far have been along the line of what I was asking...
Some were rude but i tend to just ignore them. Sometimes we need to just read the question in a little bit more detail and get the general feel of what the answer should be instead of just shooting off the first response. A few of the answers I have gotten were totaaaaaaaaaally off and i had to wonder if the ones answering even got what i meant in asking that question.
But your method of looking at the past Q's and A's are really commendable. Means that you do not take this forum as a joke and realize that it can truly have an impact on those participating.

Yep I have noticed that as well.
Tone of voice is a a benefit we dont have. Sometimes I am being sarcastic yet I can not show that in my answers.
Some of it though people just dont read the Q/A. I got an email from someone today saying "Well I dont hate Jews TYVM"
That came from this question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlWrQVgCyh5AHLTQPgs8IU7ty6IX?qid=20070714105810AAE9l6p
So of course I am sitting there looking at this email thinking "WTF?"
Also if you look at the last answer to the question the poster goes into long detail about JWs, but if you look at my question it should be obvious that I only used JWs as an example and I could have just as easy used Catholic, Baptist ect.
Often people either dont read it entirely or read what they want to in it.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Communication in this manner filters out about 93% of all human communication. What's in that 93%? All the non-verbal communication humans use. When you read my answer all you see is what I say but what you can't see is how I'm saying it. I could be yelling, I could be whispering, there could be a hint of scarchasim in my tone of voice but you can't tell because all you have is my words. So when I read a person's Q's and think they might be rude I take it with a grain of salt and just ignore them.

All people have their own agenda and view all things though that agenda. The so-called "free thinkers" are the worst. They assume things always and answer from those assumptions.

Most people hate the truth, can't stand the truth, and will argue against the truth. And invent a new truth.
That was the policy of the Nazis. Tell a lie loud enough and long enough, it becomes the new truth.

I just asked a questions to Non-Christians and have been getting my head bit off ever since!! I simply wondered why IF they don't believe in God, then when someone asks a serious question to GET help about God, alot of people not believing in God say nasty things. I guess I didn't put my words right or something and I feel bad if I offended ANYONE cause that was not my intention whatsoever! I truly was curious!

I think that is good...you are in effect, thinking the best of the individual, rather presuming the worst.

R&S member "Gandalph" mentioned something the other day in one of his posts, along the lines of: the inflection of our voice and therefore the presentation in general, being taken out of context or misunderstood. It is difficult for others to know exactly, not only what we are saying, but how we are saying it,by soley reading the written communication...(without hearing, the person's voice)

The Christian Bible proves that if there is a wrong way to take any given sentence, people will kill to have their interpretation accepted. So how many people have died from that, I wonder. It is no surprise, really, that anything we say here WILL be taken the wrong way by somebody.
It's the eternal WOW syndrome - the Way Of the World.

Yes, I run into this all the time. One rule I live my life by is:

Taking it personally is always an option.

Later in life I decided not to take this option and I find that often people did not mean to be mean.

Not particularly surprised. We only have the written words to communicate, and none of the voice inflections and visual cues that accompany real conversations.

And I would say to you... thank you for investigating me and hopefully that's enough for you to know that I - at least - wear my heart on my sleeve :)

Yes I realize that the written word is not always the best medium for true understanding - why else would there be such a brew-ha-ha over scripture ;)

and no - it's not surprising to me anyways :)
