Isn't it strange how diabetics get excemption from paying prescription costs yet asthmatics dont?? They are both potentially life-threatening illnesses so how is this fair?? I'm asthmatic and my partner is diabetic and we have the same ammount of prescriptions. He gets his free but I have to pay. Do we need to petition the government for a change??

When asthma is linked to drug addiction you will get free prescriptions, just as diabetics did with disposable needles.
For years we paid for disposable needles for our diabetic son, so we that did not have to use the hospital type glass syringes. Yet we had to fight for years when drug addicts got disposable needles before they prescribed them for diabetics, which we did via our local Diabetic group.
I now get free prescriptions, due to my seniority, notice I din`t say age,but for years had to pay £90 per year for a prepayment certificate due to the prescription drugs I needed for COPD and related diseases, all life threatening.
Hopefully due to the trend in Wales and Scotland it may not be too long before the situation is resolved in England, but certainly lobbeying your MP would be a starting point or join your local asthma group, I am sure that they are on the ball in relation to the latest situation.
While I am on my soapbox, I have tried for years to get DLA. Cannot walk to the kitchen without resting can`t even bathe or dress myself and wo betide I need a quick trip to the loo, but I am not disabled enough. Think I`ll start shooting up.

First to the person 's answer before you do not get Diabetes from bad diet it is also hereditary in many families. Yes you should petition the government it is the only way to change their ruling. And you are totally right it is not fair.

It may be something to do with smoking. I'm asthmatic and I smoke, so I don't see any reason why I shouldn't have to pay for my inhalers, as I'm not really doing myself any favours. But it's definitely not fair for the non-smokers though.

That's just a theory mind.

I don't get it. Plus, you can get diabetes through a bad diet but you're pretty much born with asthma. It's not really fair.
