There is so much pressure on people to drink and to be honest I have proved over the years that you do not need a drink to enjoy yourself. Just drink enough( if you want to) to help you feel relaxed but learn when to stop and go onto soft drinks. If even with this small amount you still feel depressed then I wouldn't even bother - be strong and don;t give in to pressure if your friends are truly your friends then they will understand that alcohol doesn;t agree with you and will accept you for yourself.
Good luck.

Ok. i'm an alcoholic, I'm diagnosed with bipolar disorder NOS, and I take Lamictal. So to answer your question, 1 shot of alcohol shouldn't interact with your meds, but it is a central nervous system depressant, and since you have more lows than highs, alcohol isn't a good idea period. I wish you would of specified your dosage(i'm on 200 mg) Either way Alcohol will screw you up emotionally. I don't know how long you have been on Lamictal, but it take s a month to start working properly. 25mg for 2 weeks, 50 for 1 week, 100 for 1 week. Then they go from there. I would abstain from any mind altering substances because that just interferes with how the the medication works.

The question you need to ask yourself is "Am I depressed from drinking, or has the drinking brought up my depression?". The reason I say this is that a lot of your subconscious mind is revealed with alcohol. It is true that alcohol is a natural depressant, but sometimes it's what's in your head, not what you put in your body.
I personally have some issues, and if I drink in the wrong situations, I end up depressed. But if I am able to surround myself with friends, that depression doesn't have a chance to arrive.
Also, when I was a heavy drinker, I would always drink a glass of water with two ibuprofin before bed. I would also eat some dry toast. This would always make my stomach feel better, and I would RARELY have the hangover symptoms.
Good luck!

For me its not so much the alcohol that gets me depressed, its the amount of money I spent the fact that, I slept away the morning, I was unproductive, and I feel like a waste of space. Alcohol is a depressant, so I'm sure those feelings are a bit more intense then they would be otherwise.
Maybe alcohol isn't for you, maybe it affects you differently, but what do I know.

I used to be like that. I don't know why. I just had to tell myself the only reason I felt that way was because of the beer. My suggestion to you...don't drink. If you only do it once a month...its no big deal. Sometimes when I go out...I drink diet soday all night. Im out till 3, dont do anything stupid and feel fine the next day

Alcohol is a depressive. Switch to club soda with a twist. It looks like you're drinking, and you will be much happier the next day.

Eat a very good, very hearty but healthy breakfast and drink a ton of water. Also before you go to bed take 2 or 3 advil, tylenol and aspirin with a large glass of water. This should also help. Good Luck....

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Drink soda and be happy the next day!

i would say if you only drink once a month maybe you could leave it out as its not really your life style, if you feel you want to have a drink have a glass of water in between every drink this helps not to get to drunk which means no hangover in the morning, the hangover is usually why we wake up feeling depressed.

That is just the way alcohol affects the body. I guess the only way to immediately get rid of it would be to take anti depressants but that just creates a whole different problem.
