I have noticed I have some followers intent on giving me thumbs down on all my answers but I don't really want to make mine private. How have some of you decided? Does it bother you that to avoid trolls, you have to prevent anyone from getting to know your answers? Does it disappoint you when you can't read someone's answers when you like their style?

I made mine private along with my contacts..there are trolls out there who will follow you around and report your q&a for abuse for no reason and generally make themselves a nuisance. I even received threatening emails. I also check out everyone who becomes a fan.

I will be the first to admit I don't understand the system yet. When I rate something it's due to the content. I don't even look at the name.
I feel there are enough here just to create chaos.
I'd love to see a site for people interested in religion and spirituality and one just for non-believers. There is no positive gain to the bickering!
If someone asks a legitimate question. Shouldn't they get a legitimate answer?
Who are the trolls? Why do you judge them so harshly?
If concerned with privacy shut the door so others don't have to see what you are up to.

Why do you even care about the thums up or down crap or how many points you earn. If you go fishing in a pond of scum to be surprized that you will catch an old shoe. Just ask and give good answers without seeking the approval of others. When we feighn for the attention of others we will always find our selves wanting more adoration or we will find ourselves hurt. So accept that you are not winning the popularity contest and help someone who may need you to answer without being flippant. Unless of course if you flippant answer can make you both laff.

if u were giving thumbs down it will encourage one to learn more and view other peoples' opinion, most time i am always giving thumbs down and it does not bother me, rather i encourage myself. There was a day a question was asked about abortion, i was given a lot of thumbs down about 10 or so, but to my amazement the asker chose me as the best answer. Pls never discourage if u were given thumbs down just encourage urself, i am not always disappointmented and that does not mean I should make my Q & A private

I actually just made mine private this morning. I didn't want to, but I found out that a friend on here was reported 5 times within an hour over the weekend, on both open and resolved questions. It occurred to me that the person reporting them, since their identity is unknown, could still get to them through my profile even after making theirs private.

Instead of working on the problem at hand (5 violations in an hour...come on!), Yahoo puts a band-aid on it by giving the option to make profiles private. It's not what I wanted to do, but until the problem gets resolved, it was the only option I had.

Someone was reporting old questions and answers of mine and having them deleted so after I made my Q & A private, all of that stopped. Apparently there are a few people on here who hate my guts. So now, problem solved. They will have to content themselves with giving me a thumbs down on a current question and reporting those. No more stalking!

My Q & A has always been public and I have just left it that way. Luckily we don't get point taken away for thumbs down so, while it does irritate me a bit, the thumbs down feature has not motivated me to make my Q & A private.

It does dissappoint to when I can't read someone's Q & A when I like their style. Particularly when I can't read their questions after having liked answering their previous questions.

Don't forget, a thumbs down does not result in any deduction of points. By rating an answer, you are telling people what YOU think of it, but others won't necessarily base there opinions on that! Don't worry about the trolls, just don't deprive those who appreciate your answers of the chance to read them.

It is tragic that some ignorant fundie trolls have made it necessary to hide your words. I know of several examples recently of people harassed and even deleted because a troll went down their list and reported everything they had done.

On 360 now we send each other notes when we see a new troll to block. That troll gets blocked immediately.

Yahoo should get the IP address of these people and prevent them from creating new accounts over and over.

All of these trolls have professed to be Christian.

Darth Cheney is a tame profile, but before having the ability to make Q & A private existed, somebody was going through my questions and reporting. I had to stop using Darth Cheney for a while. Now that we have these privacy settings, Mr. Cheney has been free to come out.

I think people should have to leave a comment or a reason on why they thumbed down. A lot of reasonable answers get thumbed down even if it is just a matter of opinion.
