probably a little escaped blood. Wash it well with some lemon in the water and then cook it - if it's been in the fridge and the sell by date is today then it should be okay. If it still smells after cooking then take it back - it doesn't matter that you've cooked it.

I'd toss it. You will lose the cost of the chicken. Let's say that would be $5.
But you also lose the chance to get sick. Stomach cramps, vomiting, maybe a day of lost work, maybe a trip to the doctor's office or clinic, maybe some medications. I don't know where you live or what you have for health insurance, so you put a value on all of this.

wash the chicken well in salted water. See if it still smells, if not, then cook it. It could just be the juice that was smelling.

If it smells bad, take it back to where you got it and get it changed. Nothing worse than munching on a dodgy chicken!

I really wouldn't risk it. You will regret when you've got your head down the toilet or worse, there are some pretty nasty infections you can get from dodgy chicken. One of my colleagues has been ill for weeks from eating off turkey, she has been so poorly. Its just not worth it hon x

Best Before dates are just estimated. if it smells bad. it very likely IS bad. if its after the date but smells good. it probably is good :)

No if it smells off don't eat it - it probably is on it's way. Better to be safe then sorry.
If you're not sure about it, you probably won't enjoy eating it anyway.

I find organic chicken.................goes off! much faster than normal supermarket bought chickens.......................
I would wash it well, cook in a pressure cooker and make a nice dinner for your dog if you have one, if NOT toss it in the bin.......................or if the shop is close take it back with the wrapper and explain to them you think its NOT fresh........
