No energy is ever "free". If the ship is moving through the air at a certain speed, and you set up a windmill to capture the energy of that relative air motion, the extra wind resistance represented by the windmill would add to the force the engines need to produce to keep the ship moving.

For example, if you could extract 100 W of power from the moving air, you would need more than 100 W extra output from the engines to overcome the resistance. Better to just hang a generator off the engines.

The purpose of a windmill is to generate (non-conventional) energy from wind and use it for various purpose. What is the point in spending (conventional) energy to run the steamer and then get the wind energy from the sea? Firstly, it is not economical. Added, there are several other parameters other than wind that plays a significant role in wind energy generation. Solar energy would be more ideal option if at all steamers were to run on renewable energy sources.

windmills are not installed in steamer because windmills needs a continuous flow of air with a speed of atleast 15km/h.
it is not possible by a steamer to run on sea for all the time and with that much speed.
that is why windmills are not installed on a steamer.

It is cutting wind because its power plant is moving it through the water. If it had a windmill that provided energy that energy is really originating in the ship's power plant which caused the motion. Taking the windmill's secondary power is less efficient than getting power directly from the ship's engine.

Wind mill will increase the air resistance (Aerodynamic Resistance)which direct affect on steamers speed also we cant able to drive the steamer.

Windmill is geared with the wind power to move machinery underneath fixed on the ground firmly to run mechanical devices or dynamo to generate electricity which is required to be sent away on wires on poles.
