Thanks for those who have already answered.... some more details... the 3 games that came with the PS2 all work fine. The recently bought games (all off e-bay), do not. They work in another console, so that rules the games out as faulty. Assuming it is a compatability issue... but haven't got the faintest where to start....

Help again...

its the consol that is faulty then if the games work on the other consols cos all consols are the same they do not have different specifications unless you are going from a ps3 to a ps2 ect so all the ps2 are the same as each other its not like a computer so u will have to get a refund for the consol as you have been ripped off

If you bought it from e-bay, there is a good chance that the disks or the system, or both are defected. That's why you should try to avoid any kinds of transactions on e-bay, specialy the ones overseas. But for your problem, try to contact the people that you bought it from, and also are those games, genuine one or pirated, if they are not genuine then there is a chance that the person did some mistake while copying the game, or if the games are real, there might be regional restrictions. And also try to contact Sony, they might be able to help.

all of the above
+if the games were made in a diferent country then the PS2 than they cant b read

games from different regions are coded differently and if the console and the games arent from the same region that will happen

that doesnt happen with the PS3 tho

Are the games PS2 compatible? I rented some XBox Games for my XBox 360, and found out that only certain games work on both consoles. Try checking that out...

If the games were not compatible with ur ps2's region, it would had said regional restriction. I think theres something wrong with ur ps2's laser unit...take it to a local games store and have them look at it, it wont cost a lot to get it repaired.

Try playing a cd or a dvd on the machine. If that doesn't work have a look at ps2repairs.co.uk from consoleworks. They have offer a full repair service, or from memory there's a diagnostic table on the website somewhere.
They also sell the parts for you to repair your machine. Believe me paying a few quid and having a go yourself is well worth is especially as their instructions are crystal clear. I managed to fix mine and I have no experience in electronics at all!!

to start off with we know the game are compatiable because if they weren't it would say to insert a ps2 disc......so that out of the question did you make sure that you were bidding on a broken ps2 perharps i know sometime they throw it in in the middle of the summary so it throw people off, happen to me however i got my crap fixed anyways i would contact the seller and inform them of your situation and try to get your money back or try to get your ps2 fix!!!! you could try to play the game on someone elses just to see if it the ps2.....
