I need to analyse a famous person who held this stance and compare it to the view of the catholic church.

its easy to find the catholic church's position. but can anyone think of an individual famous person who believed that it is worth dying for a cause? I was thinking of some famous war veteran or person who sacrificed life to save another?

Thanks for your thoughts :)

Under the right circumstances, people will sacrifice their own lives but usually for other people and not a cause. Even in war, the sacrifice is for your buddy and not to win the war.

I think you perhaps also have to remove sacrifices that were made in extreme emotion because people aren't thinking straight under stress.

I think such sacrifices are hard to come by.

I do not consider the catholic Church as the entire body of Christ to start with. But there are people that die on an almost daily basis to minister the word of God in countries like China. No they are not famous to the world because the world is against Christianity.

Yes. Has it not been said that your life is worthless until you find a cause worth dying for? Was not Peter crucified upside down at his own request because he said he was not fit to die in the same manner as his Lord?
There are many good answers above me. I would die for my Lord, my Country, my wife, my children, and probably other causes I'm not yet aware of. Soldiers make these decisions daily.

I remember something like that. In the Philippines, Ninoy Benigno Aquino, a Filipino senator that was shot after he was walking down the stairs of the plane. He quoted, "The Filipino is worth dying for."

Jesus died, to save the world. If they simply call on him, they will be saved. Apparently this is too hard for a majority of people. Ya know, the whole ego thing gets in the way.

Then there are pretty much every single biblical prophet. They were killed for the testimony of Jesus Christ. It was more important to spread the truth of God, then to save their life.

With love through Christ Jesus,

Dusty.

oh and PS: Christianity is the ONLY religion, that tells you.. you cannot earn your way into heaven by works. It's a FREE gift from God, through Jesus Christ. Man I love the fact that God picked me from before the foundations of the world! PRAISE JESUS CHRIST!!!

Life is given by God and by death we return to Him.

The people who love God a lot, are happy to return to Him and to those people death is not at all difficult.
God has promised hell for bad deeds and heaven for good deeds. So attaining this beautiful heaven with all the luxuries which is beyound our imagination, dying is not a problem.

To attain this heaven, one has to perform many good deeds, which includes worshipping god, helping others and sometimes, sacrificing our life for them.
