The dentist may want to do a check up as well since you are new to them.. I am one of lucky folks who have been able to find NHS dentist but when I lived in SE England I had to go private for some treatment it was very expensive as he persuaded me to have a crown done , which was later removed (NHS) as he had cracked the root causing infection.
If all you need is check up and filling , dentists very rarely extract now , ..you are probably talking £100 -£150. When you are there you should ask about dental plans which then allow you to spread costs and have a couple of regular check ups a year . This then reduces need of treatment in future .
Hope the visit goes OK .. good luck

If you are in pain and not registered with a dentist at the moment...you can go through the NHS DIRECT phone number and they will give you an emergency dentist number. You go and it is filled for free!!! 0845 46 47

The dentist will have a fixed hourly rate. Phone the surgery and they will be able to tell what fees they charge.

See if they do a dental plan - you pay monthly and get whatever treatment you need whenever you want/need it!

Mine charges about £60 for a filling.
