I have a trip early next year to new york city for some drama school auditions and I was wondering how much money I should alot per day for food, for 3 meals each day. Since the days will be rigorous I need to keep my stregnth up so I will probably eat breakfast even though I normally dont. For lunch I was thinking either a cheap resteraunt, street vendors, or on campus(if available), and then maybe order out or a cheap place for dinner. Each audition consumes an entire day so the only meal I will really be able to fix for myself would be breakfast.

I would stick with the Street Vendors for breakfast and lunch. For a few dollars each, you can get some quick and healthy food on the go and you have a huge variety to choose from. If you have the time I would suggest going to little italy or chinatown for lunch. You can get the dinner portions at lunch prices. And for chinese, well the portions are huge, the variety neverending and the price cheap. Also look into Carnegie deli. Although the prices of the sandwiches are high you are getting about 2 pounds of meat on each sandwich and each sandwich will last you maybe 2-3 meals. I would alot about $40 a day. Do like Racheal Ray, ask the locals and check out the specials.

As much as you got is enough. You can get a good meal for $2.50 per person or $2500.00 per person in NYC. Get a Zagat's guide for NYC at any bookstore in New York or probably your local Barnes & Noble has them too. Zagat's has a bargain section and best of the best money is no object sections too.

Big Wong's on Mott Street in Chinatown is some of the best cheap eats in the city. Dojo on West 4th & University and Veselka on 2nd & 11th are famous good and cheap spots too. Gray's Papaya on 72nd & Broadway and other locations has 2 great dogs and drink for $2.50 24 hours.

Nearly any deli or bodega has coffee and a buttered roll breakfast specials for $1.50 for an egg and cheese on a roll with or without bacon or ham and coffee or about $2.50-$3.25.

Some street vendors are great, others you'll regret. Look for the ones with lines. NY's know who's good.

Just look around for bargains, they are everywhere. There's over 8000 restaurants in NYC. Lots to choose from, have fun.

It's been a few years since I've been there but usually about twenty to thirty dollars a day will do you, maybe even less. I love the hot dog vendors and thats only a couple bucks, so if you want to stay cheap, go there. Also, pizza is great and you can get a slice or two for cheap.

You should allow for $50 per day this way if you save money for this budget and don't use it you will have extra cash for other things you might want to do.

depends on where you're planning on eating. if you're going to pull a supersize me and eat at fast food joints, you'll only need about 20 dollars a day. but if you're planning on eating somewhere decent, I'd alot at least 60 dollars a day.
