I don't understand why some people are so rude when having manners doesn't cost anything and can make the difference to someone's day!

yeh that works in theroy. But sometimes you have a crap day and dont feel like being nice. if everyone was nice and polite then the terms wouldnt exist.
I hate when people go out of their way to be rude though!

Some people build habits of rudeness that's hard to break. If we were all taught by our parents to be polite I'm sure there'd be way more polite people in the world today. Remember you don't only learn being polite by someone telling you directly to be polite, but you learn by what you see constantly every day. Some people build their rude behaviors by watching certain television shows, or watching their parents fight in front of them, regardless of what they are told to act like. And many time they're just under a lot of stress and don't mean to be so rude, it just comes out wrong at the time and they may not realize what they are doing is impolite. Some people do it just because they're mean on purpose, they like to be mean, they like to be rude they enjoy the reaction they get out of people when they act in such ways. In a way I agree, why can't people all be polite when it costs nothing at all? But on the other hand, some harmless rudeness adds a bit of color to what life is, even if we don't like it..

Because it is false.

It is human nature to be greedy and at all times to hold back your fellow humans because of this "Survival" instinct, if you don't get your slice of the cake, someone else will and you will starve...

Also this is reflected in the systems that we live under like social & welfare, income tax, national insurance, council tax, pluse several other taxes that we all have to pay regardless of our financial status.

Everything is geared towards you not having anything, denying access to services because of financial status etc, I could go on and on.

So, you see why people are so rude? If we were not taxed too much, which we are in the UK one of the most heavily taxed nations on this planet, if we were not t axed as heavy, their would be plenty to go around, people would be more happy and as a knock on effect people on the whole would be more polite.

Instead, because of the tax system we live by, we are a grumpy, rude nation of whingers that cant be assed to stand up for our rights.

People who are deliberately rude and boorish, are really little people who have never grown up and are often inadequate.
It is often a way of attracting attention like little lads in the street who strut around using the f-word at the tops of their voices and the head-bangers in cars - alpha male syndrome.
If you give them the response they are after - more bad manners and rudeness then they have "won" something or other. A "crossed transaction" works better - a good example is the Shania Twain song "That Don't Impress me Much".
Being cross and being rude and ill-mannered are totally different things. Shame some people weren't taught that by their parents.
"If you can't say something good about somebody - don't say nuthin' at all" - Thumper in "Bambi"

Ask yourself, how often do people smile when approaching a retail outlet counter, or something like that, I always think if an asistant does not smile, they have been treated badly by a customer, so always greet them with a smile, followed by something that would make them smile, this way service is good, even improved, as hopefully someone is either listening or watching, they both will follow suit, in todays modern age, people prefer to learn by example, rather than be TOLD, asking is another word which is not a demand

I agree, but one thing to consider people are under so much strain today because of the lives they lead , we have e mail, mobile phones, pagers, all to make our lives easier and to communicate better but does it, no! it just means you are more accessible, with people expecting instant answers, which just isn't possible. Juggling home and career can be a nightmare and common courtesy can be the victim, being short with someone because you are over stretched physically and emotionally.
I always give up my seat on public transport for the elderly and pregnant women but its amazing how many times the person has refused and not necessarily with a thank you or a smile.
Ken Livingstone Londons Mayor has a new initiative to come in line for the 2012 Olympics is to make people smile more, particularly those who will be working with the general public, i think he's on a hiding to nothing with that one!

i HAVE A JOB THAT YOU HAVE TO be polite. This carries on after work because I have a rep to uphold. Even if I did not have this job I would hold the door for a man or a woman. This means a lot, it is better than having a door shut in your face. People just don't care about others anymore. Do what you can do and it might rub off.You never know down the line who you may influence.

I feel that Economic, cultural, & or general surrounds plays a big part in this !?! then others pride & thoughts might come into play !?! Possibly do to the feel that atleast every other persons's either against them!?!, trying to scheme something that would have others feel they are being out-done !! & having them forget the importance of whatever!?! which in`turn may have a person to show a rude side !?! `'R"r.r`r,r'.-

Some people have problems, they are hurting. Some people can't understand why someone would be nice to them, especially if they grew up in a bad enviroment. I think people are wary these days of someone being nice to them, it's the world we have created. Sad.

I don't know either! people get annoyed very soon, when driving e.g. if you don't move your car as soon as the traffic light turns green.....OOOhh my GOOODDDD!! they start honking ...... and swearing at you too.....or another example: when on the cross walk ,drivers go faster when they see you waiting as a fool for more than 3 minutes... whereas I noticed that in other cities like London, they're VERY polite.....
I wish I could live there!!
living in such society , makes you turn into a person you would never be!!!
