why do so many catholic priests molest children?

I believe out of their own greed many years ago, when they banned priests from marriage so the church would inherit all the priests' estates instead of thier wives, any other ideas???
...... and this is not a violational question, there is a huge case against the church for many many priests that have violated children and the church has tried to cover it up!

I agree that the celibacy enforced upon priests has a great deal to do with it. They want them to abstain from sex yet they are human and as such have natural urges. The only people they have regular consistent contact with just happen to be altar boys. When two people maintain a consistent relationship with little contact with others, there is bound to be sexual tension. Some people just are not strong enough to avoid the temptation.

Statistically speaking, less than 1% of Catholic priests have molested a child.

Why would ANYONE molest a child? Because they're sick.

Edit: There is no source. It's common sense. There are thousands and thousands of Catholic priests, all over the world. A few hundred, if that, have been accused of molesting a child. If there are 25000 Catholic priests worldwide, and 200 have been accused of molesting children, that means that 0.008% of Catholic priests have molested children.

These were just these two months.......

Pastors have wife and children of their own, yet they molested kids, does it mean they are homosexual or being deprived of sex? I sincerely doubt so.

Now, the churches of these pastors cited above also tried to cover their act up, and when the problem grew too much, they conveniently say what the pastors did were their own and have nothing to do with the church. So is that a kind of blame mentality?

Child Molesters look for jobs where they will be in a position of trust and authority and have access to children- teachers, guidance counselors and ministers of all faiths. I really hope you asked this question to learn, and not just to continue an unfair stereotype. The vast majority of clergymen from all faiths would never think of harming a child.

This has nothing to do with it. Pedophilia is a disease that Marriage won't cure. The reason that "so many" have been caught is that it is a rigid bureaucracy and they keep good records. I am sure that the prevalence is the same in other sects. You just don't see many secretaries in those "snake cult" religions.

According to mental health professionals, pedophilia is not connected to celibacy or homosexuality.

This very small group of child molesters would be just as sick or evil whether or not they had taken a vow of celibacy.
