Stylistic reasons

The reason being because at one time, the way the logo was slanted, Dr. would look like Di, as well as to remove any medical connotation with the product

"Q: Why was the period in the Dr part of Dr Pepper (as in Dr.) dropped? And is Dr Pepper technically a cola or does it fall into a noncola category? I believe there was a court ruling on this at some point.

A: Very observant of you to notice the missing period!

According to Joy Summar-Smith, research coordinator at the Dr Pepper Museum in Waco, in 1950 the company decided to update their image. The Dr Pepper Company assigned the Ruthrauff & Ryan agency to conduct a consumer study and propose a new logo. They chose a new typeface – an italicized block sans serif font. The "r" in Dr was a slanted line with a large round dot to form the letter. When the period was added, it looked like it said "DI:" instead of "Dr," so the period was dropped. There was a lot of discussion about whether or not to drop the period, but since it was a trademark and artistic license could be taken, they decided to eliminate the period."

I know that it used to have the period after the "Dr" for a time when the drink was originally released, then after some time and (i think) after the can/bottle changed designe they ended up dropping the period for some reason.... i don't think it has to do with bad grammer or anything, they just ended up dropping it....

Again, Im not sure about all this, but I'm fairly sure that I've heard this before

Bad grammar on the part of the Coca-Cola company. There should be a period.

When the last letter of an abbreviation is used, then no period is required. This will be true for Mr, Mrs and Dr but not for Prof or Esq which need to be Prof. and Esq.

Strange isn't it.

Because it's not an abbreviation for Doctor. It's a name.
