I think the apple is a symbol of the knowledge of good and evil. So after eating the fruit Adam and Eve could make choices. Before they ate the fruit they were just like they were before they came to earth, innocent, incapable of sin. Because they were now capable of sinning they couldn't be in the presence of God all the time anymore and that is why they were cast out of the garden.

An apple is the universal symbol for wisdom. Avalon was covered in apple trees, sacred to the goddess. They're also too healthy not to have an apple a day. No pun intended here. Ha.

Apple (Earth elements)
Prior to taking earths elements Adam and Eve were beings of light. An apple as an example used to describe the beings sent to earth first taking on human form, by taking earths elements into them. Becoming physical beings! The knowledge of the human form!

Not wisdom or sin - but knowledge - wisdom and sin are judgements - what we do with our knowledge determines whether we are wise or sinful.
Knowledge offers choices -
