Ok the Tang dynasty aka the mongol empire I think that was their empire name been awhile since I had history classes. Had plan a massive invasion on japan. They traveled by sea but a great storm stopped them and killing their army. How do you think the war would have gone if that storm never happened. Curious not sure how advance japan was back then in warfare.

From what I remember of that instance of Kami Kazi, if the Mongols had forced a landing, it would have been a toss up as to who won.

Technologically speaking, the Japanese and Mongols were nearly balanced, but the Mongols had a hundred years of conquest behind them. They were also predominantly horsemen, and the Japanese were predominantly foot soldiers. The Mongols also had the advantage of a unified command while the Japanese were handicapped by divided loyalties.

I do not think the Mongols could have successfully occupied Japan, at least not for long. But they could have done serious damage to Japanese culture and traditions by a partial occupation and a long war for their expulsion.

I have to agree with Doc Hudson. He has it right. Another point I wanted to note was that the Japanese believed in one-on-one warfare and the mongols capitalized on this with their landing. They did establish a landing, but only a small one an had to return to the mainland.

They would initially have 1-1 fights, but the mongols would close in around and kill the japanese warrior. Then they would repeat until the japanese figured it out.
