According to the dictionary, an Athiest is "one who doesn't believe in God or Dieties." Simply that and nothing more. The Christian who stated his/her opinion of an Atheist was stating their own personal beliefs. I repeat...their own personal beliefs! I wish I could open the minds of some of these people with a big can opener!

it's a stereotype - just like the ones that are often applied to Christians - and it's probably not correct in the assertions of characterless, selfish, ungrateful, and bad - those are judgements that must be made on an individual basis - if at all.
I think it's possible to believe in goodness without believeing in God -

well that was kinda harsh to be speaking of a certain group of ppl like that. ANYBODY can be characterless, selfish, ungrateful, and bad. i do however agree that they are faithless, and against God. now you ask how can you be against someone you dont believe in? that is how. from not believing in him you are against him. just cause one dont hear the woman screaming in the woods, does that mean she isnt? has far as not beliving in good, it said the gentiles even though they did not have the law, the law was still carved in their hearts. they still knew right from wrong.

No, I don't agree with any of it. I believe there IS such a thing as a "bad" atheist, and I don't believe that atheist means "bad."
I can't speak for any other Christians besides myself.

Such bologna, the Oscar Meyer variety.
I prefer the circle U and circle K designation, but this type of emulsified meat is truly hard to find.
So I stick with the typical Reuben on rye.
Oh, yeah I was saying, such bologna!

I think many christians feel that way. Even through it's directed at atheists, I think it is an unintentional side-effect. I think it's used to keep their members from leaving. It keeps them believing they alone have the Truth. That their god is only the source of Good.

He's wrong. Atheist literally means "No God". Theist comes from the Greek word Theos.

1) atheist simply means no gods. Everything else there is just religious bias against non-believers.
2) The word god doesn't come from good, it comes from the proto-Indo-European word "g^utóm".

I think it's a very ignorant, typical thing to say.
IMHO, atheists can be as good or bad as a Christian.
