Steven...how can you look around at the things in this earth that God created and say that there's no God? He created all this, lakes, rivers, butterflies, beautiful clouds, mountains, thousand of different kinds of flowers and creatures, magnificant sunsets and sunrises...so I don't know how anyone could believe there isn't a God. Yes, there are many different religions, different people interpret "God" differently, but there is still only one God, no matter what anyone thinks, including me. This earth, this universe, the place, did not just happen, a "higher power", i.e. "God "created it. No surprise there, no questions there, we just have to accept it for what it is....a miraculous creation by the God that created us. I would not preach to you, I'm just stating what's in my heart. I have no doubt, that there is a God, if I ever did doubt it, all I would have to do is just look around and see the beauties of the earth. Yes, there are bad people and bad things going on here on this earth, that He created, but He did not do that. The sin that entered this earth, way back in the Garden of Eden, created this terrible situation. And it's getting worse all the time. When the Lord does come for His own, and He will, it will be the end of these bad times. I am a Christian, and that means I have believed that Jesus died for my sins, I have asked Him to forgive me of my sins, and try to live a good life, treating everyone as I would want to be treated. I have to believe in God, it's what's in my heart. There is 'no way' that anyone could convience me otherwise. Anyway, please believe that there is a God. Even if you do not embrace Him now, maybe someday you will see what He means to this universe. I will pray that you will fine the peace that only God can give. My life is not the best, but I have the hope of a better life someday, the life that God will give me for Eternity! Religion is not what will get me to Heaven, God will, the saving grace of His son Jesus. I know what loss is, I lost my husband of my youth, 8 years ago. I am remarried again, but it is NOT the way it was before, and it never will be. I believe that I will see my true love again someday in Heaven and that is my hope and prayer for you too...happiness. Hang onto the love you have and pray for your dad. I will be praying for you Steven, that your dad will quit abusing you and your sister and that you will be happy someday soon. Take care and may God richly bless you. I hope that someday you will believe in Him too. Keep your chin up young man. God loves you! ♥

Ma-a-ate; life's far too short for it to be a burden.
1. There are no laws that say you must believe in any version of The Invisible Man - in fact one of the US constitutional amendments says you have (not me cos I'm in Oz) Freedom OF Religion which also means you have the choice to be Free FROM Religion.
2. If you feel you oughta have a religion pick one that you like cos in the final analysis each religion believes in its own superiority which means they all think they're right and they all think they have The ONLY Truth.
In one of the Hindu books, The Bhagavad-Gita, Krishna says “It matters not which path man takes for all roads lead to me.”
I'm an Atheist but that sounds okay to me.
3. Below is a site containing a quiz to help you find YOUR religion and you can change your mind as many times as you want - go with the flow AND remember to have fun.
4. If any religion wants your money, leave and find one that doesn’t. You don’t want to be helping the Benny Hinns of this world into even more decadent luxury.
And finally …
5. Always remember: There’s really good money to be made from religion – Treating it or Pushing it – IF you can keep a straight face.

I am very sorry that you have pain. As I'm reading the answers to your questions, it seems that there are not too many people actually guiding you to the only thing that will take your pain away. Yes, the world in full of many "religions" and that is part of the problem. The world we live in regards the idea of "believe what you want" as opposed to the foundation of all life. God. God is the creator of the universe including those you choose not to believe and those who believe in different stages. God sent His son Jesus to die for the sins of the world. That is not made up and some people may not agree, but it's only because they have never been taught the truth. Jesus loves all of us and is here for everyone that calls on Him. He will take away all your fears, pain, confusion and if in fact you do enter into hard times, His grace will lighten your load and never make anything to unbearable. Many will disagree with me, and historically, Christians are the most "hated" in the world, with much understanding. The Bible tells you that you will be pursecuted for His sake but to stand strong and our rewards will be in heaven! I get it all the time, including members of my own family. Standing strong for Jesus is so powerful! Pick up a Bible and start learning about the Glory of God and His purpose. If you would like, you can email me and I would love to give you the link to my church for a step in the right direction. As long as you find a Bible teaching church that lifts Jesus on high, you should be fine. And again, there are going to be so many people that ridicule you because of Jesus, but He is the Way, the Truth and the Life! Why would a life free of the stress of sin and rock of His love be such a negative thing? Well, humankind wants to make their own decisions and that is exactly why the world is in the mess it is. God Bless you and I'll pray that your life is trult changed by Christ!

I cant give you proof that God is real other than to say look around, and through testimony of people who would rather kill you then to mess with you, but God saved them. Now they live a different life. Being saved does not mean your stress will be gone, but things are different in how you deal with the stress. I can only give advice and say read God's word and I recommend the KJV. Read 1 John. I had my first true love when I was 14 most wanted to say that was puppy love but I beg to differ. Seek and ye shall find.

hey steven
looks like you need to find the middle path
the path of balance, of peace, justice and mercy
you asked if i think you are wrong for not believing in a higher power. Well it will depend on whether any evidence has been presented to you about a higher power- what higher power???
so many things fall under that category!
you are not necessarily wrong, but i doubt you'd be right (from my perspective)
i am a science / law student myself and i believe in science, but i also know where science fails us- its full of models. how can you say you "believe in it (absolutely)".
science is based on observations and perspectives. Models are ways of explaining what we know.
Athiests may claim that God or Gods is/are ways of explaining what we dont know as well
But i am a muslim i believe that "there is no God or Gods...... Except God"
So we come from the same place only we have placed in there God.
In the Quran, God says that God is the one who sends down the rain. But it doesnt stop it from describing the complex processes it takes for rain to actually come down, see?
you are confused because you want to know what the truth is. there's nothing wrong with that. and its better to be confused or skeptical or curious than it is to be snug, arrogant and proud.
and that applies to people of all religious identities.
Good luck my man!

You are neither wrong or right. Religion is very private , if you dont believe in a higher power maybe because you dont feel you need any higher power to fill in your life.
You had yr grandma before and you have a girl friend now who gives you love you need.
What you always hear is Jesus is love, always forgiven, and Jesus is God .
When you read Bible you can see how Jesus loves was put in his action; So maybe that is what you think God loves is.
I see thru different angle.
I believe one day, once you are in such condition (doesn't need to be poor), but there are situation that forced us to say :"ooo God!" Then you know what that means.
There are things unexpected.
The passed of your grandma can be rationalized so no superpower needed to explain the caused.
But, what about your girlfriend hit by a car? Do you want it? Just imagine she is going with her family, or with her class or she was on her way to meet you, in a sudden somebody drunk ,hit her car or hit her.
Say she is not dead but hospital and doctors are far away or slow or she need to be operated .
I bet, you wish for something as you scared of losing, ......maybe you pray and need the help of Super Power.
When she recovers, you may forget that you ever shouted for help from the Super Power, or you may feel gratefull to thank the Super Power.
So Iam not worry that you dont believe in the super power now, but I am sure you will one day.
I rather to speak w my super power before the need, and rather understand the real quality of my super power as early as possible.
Mind you, Super Power is not belong to the poor, the stupid, the ugly and the ignorants only. I am not poor, I have a very high IQ, I am not ugly and I am not ignorant; but I always like to have a Super Power next to me, The Super Power Whom I can not imagine and I cant visualize.

I have a 15 year old daughter, and questions like this really touch me, to see young people searching. I can tell you this, God is seeking you out. You would not be asking this question if He wasn't. You can search all you want for the "right" religion for you, however there is only one God who seeks you and that is the ONE AND ONLY GOD- He loved you long before you were even conceived. Jesus thought of you while He hung on that cross 2,000 years ago. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your precious grandmother. The Lord promises to be there in all your life, through the stresses, but that does not mean your life will be free from stress. Peace in Christ, does not mean no stress, it means peace in the stress. NO there are no other gods around- He is the One true living God, and you can find Him if you want too, because He has been seeking you out long before you asked this question. Look to Him for your salvation- I am sorry to hear about your father being a bit abusive to you and your sister. I can tell you , the heavenly Father is trustworthy and will never leave you or forsake you. Trust Him, and He will prove Himself to be true to you. God bless you on your searching!!

Questions are never offensive when they are sincere.
Converting yourself to any religion may be a lifelong pursuit. Keep asking those questions and keep an open mind. When you are on the right track, our Father in Heaven will let you know. You will know by the "still small voice" you hear in your mind and feel in your heart. Don't let yourself be influenced by people in this forum or those in your life. Only you can make the determination for yourself. No one else can do it for you.
It's great that you are asking the questions. Keep it up and you will find the answers.
By the way, your parents may not be perfect, but I am sure they love you evven though they probably make mistakes.

My step-dad was a lil abusive to my brother and I. Did you ever think that perhaps the Lord sent her to you to help alleviate the anxiety that plagues you? Whether or not your relationship lasts forever I cannot say. I believe in God but NOT in any particular RELIGION. Religion is the laws of God interpreted by man, who puts thier own spin on how they think we should conduct our lives. All God asked for, was for us to obey his Ten Commandments. Even if you don't believe in God, the Ten Commandments are still the best directions for living a fulfilling life. In case you don't know them, you can find them in Exodus chapter 20. I'm not going to put them here, because I'm not a preacher. If you can live those Commandments, what have you got to lose? The Romans and Greeks had a diffferent God for everything. Today, most people in the civilized world who believe in a higher power believe in only one God. Think on this question for a while, have you ever prayed to God for something and got it? It took me 20 years to realize that so many of the things I asked God for I got. It may not have happened immediately, but one must remember, the length of a day for God and us are very different. We come to this world and leave in less than one blink of an eye in God's timeline. But if you pray for something in earnest, it is written that it will be given unto you. Our Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of religion. That means you can believe or NOT believe any way you choose to. I hope I've helped. Did you ask God to help you with the stress in your life? That may be how you found your girlfriend. God Listens. Good Luck.

I don't believe you're wrong for not believing in a higher power -- there are plenty of happy, healthy, ethical atheists out there. If that's where your mind and heart honestly lead you, I say go with it, and more power to you.
You might find the Belief-O-Matic quiz over at Beliefnet.com helpful:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
It's fun, and it matches you up with a wide variety of religions and philosophies (including atheism) based on your answers, with write-ups for each one. The results can be very surprising.
Sorry to hear about your family situation. That truly sucks.
