In the past, I've been diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder, but those diagnoses turned out to be alcoholism in disguise. I've been unmedicated and doing well under medical supervision since I got sober a few years ago. Lately, I've been feeling weird, though. I don't think it's depression because I'm not sleeping too much, and I have hope for the future. However, I don't seem to take much pleasure in things, and I'm totally lazy. I'm not really manic like the alcohol/drug induced episodes I had years ago, but my head is in the clouds. I feel really directionless. I'm just waiting to see what happens next in my life and feel sort of detached from everything. My psychiatrist is not of any help. He tells me things like "my mood is depressed," but I'm not actually depressed. I feel like I'm at this big turning point in my life, but I don't know what actions to take or even what it is I'm supposed to be deciding. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do?

hey! I'm not psychiatrist and i don't even know one, nor am i interested. with all of your previous diagnosis i would do so much research that a psychiatrist would be learning from me, not the other way around. i would fill my down time with positive events. start a journal and write down your goals and what you would like to see transpire in the days ahead. thinking positively is just a start. you have so much to be thankful for and i feel you don't realize how fortunate you are.
as far as not knowing what actions to take in the turning point of life, join the crowd. writing down your desires helps. this is going to sound so far out there, but, have you ever tried yoga. yoga releases a lot of stress and gets you balanced spiritually.

I don't know all the facts, as far as age, how long in the past you were an alcoholic etc. Did your psychiatrist recommend a treatment plan of meds? Sometimes speaking to someone else like a therapist can really help you see another view of the situation. I am Bipolar with Panic Anxiety Disorder and it has been a difficult road for me to go down but I have a handle on things now after 14 years. My therapist had a big role in my recovery. A lot of recovery is a mindset. Yes, I have had many weird feelings as you describe them and have felt detached from everything and everyone. Unless you walk in these shoes, one can not understand how the mind or feelings feel. Sleep is few hours as compared to most people. That has been a pattern for me for this entire 14 years I have been diagnosed with mental illness. I journal my feelings still daily if they are out of the ordinary and things that may trigger the way I feel. (as you put in the clouds) This has helped me also tremendously! Then I discuss my notes with my therapist who offers me suggestions on how to deal with the specific events that were triggers. Subconscious things are brought to light that I never knew or were aware of until I journal my events that made me feel these weird feelings. I hope this rambling on helps you out. Please let me know. Good Luck and go see a therapist.

Why don`t u seek another opinion from a psychiatrist who can diagnose your feelings and treat you accordingly. The symptoms you describe could be an early stage of some personality or mental disorder. It would appear you`re living a dreamlike existence, somewhat out of touch with reality, almost like a borderline schizophrenic. I would suggest you find another doctor or therapist who can help you get a grip on your life even if you need to go back on medication. Perhaps these feelings you r experiencing is a throw back from the days of your alcohol/drug usage. I wish u luck and improved health soon.

Maybe your emotions are outrageously confusing. It kinda sounds like you might be experiencing a panic reaction to something. And not all depression leads to being sleepy. To be honest with you I'm quite depressed right now, and I'm not budging with the whole tired thing. You could sit down and relax do some breathing exercises, get your mind off things, and then after maybe refresh your memory about what is bothering you. But on the mean time find yourself a different psychiatrist (you possibly could do this by going to the doctors office and get a doctors recommendation for you).

Well there is different types of bi-polar I am bi-polar2 even moods then down never manic.
just because your not sleeping doesn't mean it's not depression, we all have different systems, being that we are all different.
Not taking much pleasure in things you once did is a sign. The lazy feeling is to but your not lazy.

You know something is wrong with yourself you feel it you know yourself better than anyone else even though your confused.

If your not happy with your psychiatrist find one you like that is the most important thing. Where I go they tired to give me a new one and told them I didn't want her so I got one I felt more comfy with that is so important.

You may need to go on some medication for a short time. I did try herbs, minerals, vitamins but they didnt help me

See a Dr. they do know.
I hated to find out I was bi-polar2 but I had to except it

good luck I can understand

Well, if your directionless you need to look for something. What are you interested in? You could join a club or group, meet new people, go on a vacation. Just something to give it meaning and it will come to you eventually. Just be happy, thats all you can do. Happiness can lead to success.
