It is very dangerous.
WHY..
because as with any mood altering med you first not only need to consult your md... You also need to wean yourself off of them slowly.
If the med is not working for you and you do have bi-polar you will likely need some type of medication.
You could try a natural remedy rather than the RX mind- alltering type..
But, please first ask your doc.
It can cause serious side effects if you suddenly stop taking this type of medication.
Good luck to you!

It can be dangerous, if stopped suddenly. Some major side-effects of sudden withdrawal of most anti-depressants similar to Cymbalta are of followed: 1. Anorexia 2. Increased Blood Cholesterol 3. Bundle Branch Block Right (there are specialized cells in the upper right heart chamber and are basically the heart’s pacemaker, these can get thrown out of balance and cause a person to faint.) 4. Cardiac Failure 5. Insomnia 6. Mood Swings 7. Orgasm Abnormal (Unable to have an orgasm with normal sexual stimulation.) 8. Nervousness 9. Retinal Detachment (When it detaches it will cause a reduced ability to see.) 10. Suicidal Thoughts.
Not everyone will have these effects and to the same degree. I have read quite a few people who find slowly weening their-selves off is the best way to quit. I would talk to your doctor and find the best solution, i suggest whatever you choose, make sure you feel comfortable with that decision.

I work as a medical professional in an ER, currently out on Workman's Comp after herniating two cervical disks. I was put on Cymbalta 60 mg (after a week on 20 and another on 30) for nerve pain, which is another use for it. I was/have been told repeatedly by my neurologist, neurosurgeon, pharmacist, and a number of physician friends to be sure to lower my dosage slowly as it interacts with several chemicals within the brain. An abrupt cessation could cause psychological problems, including severe depression, which I have never had. Your physician should help you lower your dose from 60 to 30 (or something in-between) providing he feels you are ready. Then after a couple of weeks, the physician should check you out again to see if you are ready and able to be lowered to 20. Finally, another check to determine if you are ready to come off completely. It is a long process because your body has to adapt to the lesser dosages of Cymbalta and the way it interacts with the normal chemicals within you. It isn't worth rushing. Best of luck.

It is dangerous, stopping an antidepressant suddenly can lead to withdrawal symptoms that can be severe. Even to seizures and death....don't be stupid, take your medications as prescribed until you have spoken with your doctor and he gives you a taper plan to get off of the med.
