First of all, how old are they? Talk to them, don't yell. All yelling does is get them to not pay attention to you. I only raise my voice to my son if he is doing something dangerous or had absolutely gotten on my last nerve. Time outs can be effective for some, but not all kids. I watch a boy that has severe delays and is ADHD and time out works wonders for him.

Why should he listen to your b/f?He is just your b/f and nothing more.He is not the father of your kid. When your b/f marries you, moves you and starts paying for everything including your kid THEN the child is obligated to listen to him not before. You should be able to make your kid behave.Consistent discipline works.Spank the child if you have to and if you do not trust your b/f to discipline the child then dump him.No b/f will stand for being disrespected by a brat for long.

Really you shouldn't be getting a boyfriend involved in a child's life. Also you shouldn't be giving him the authority if you do.
As to listening, Discipline and enforcing Consequences.
Meaning
FIRM BOUNDARIES
and
STRICT CONSEQUENCES

You have to earn your children's respect by being respectful. There is no reason to lose control of children unless you aren't paying attention or vigilant enough to stay one step ahead of them. You have to set good examples and be a strong role model of acceptable and honorable behavior. You are raising the generation who will be taking care of you and running this country. Teach them how to be good people.
