Wouldn't it be better to not get baptised so your not punished more harshly than if you didn't?

Maybe you should be asking someone that knows more about this question and can really help you understand! The whole question is confused and misleading, so just talk to a real person who is LDS and can answer you truthfully... We are not punished for every sin before baptism... that is false! Baptism is actually done to cleanse or wash away our sins.. and after we are baptized we are able to repent of any sins that we might have ... no, we don't thrive on guilt or punishment... that is false too... some people love to condemn what they don't know or understand.... so, instead it would be better to learn the truth!

you don't understand.
OK. first of all , when you get baptized, If you were born into the church then you will get baptized around age 8. Because that is the age when you become accountable for your choices. So once you are baptized you are forgiven your sins, but then when you make mistakes you still have to repent, because now you know what is right or wrong, and so... I don't know where you got the idea about after you are baptized your punishments are worse etc.etc.
because that's not true.
Unless you make seriously bad choices, than you have to do more to repent because the worse your sin is, the larger the consequence is going to be.

I am LDS. Don't think of it as being punished for sinning. Jesus atoned for our sins: remember that! Before we were baptized we were innocent if you would say. When we are baptized we are clean as ever and pure. We have a fresh start. We know right from wrong that is why we know better not to sin. EVERYONE SINS. It seems that way after we are baptized because WE NEED TO REPENT. After we are baptized and sin we are expected to repent. If you weren't baptized, then you couldn't know for yourself what is wrong and what is right.(You've probably heard this before but the people you should be asking are your bishop, leaders, and Heavenly Father). God loves you and doesn't punish you. Would you rather love God with sorrow and guilt or by faith and obediance. Ponder that thought. Strive to do good and repent if you know you did something wrong. Bye!!!

Punishment implies that we are deprived of something because of wrong doing. When we are baptized we covenant to always keep His commandments, that His spirit may always be with us. The only "punishment" we receive for sinning is that we may lose the spirit. We are punished more than others because we know what it means to have this gift, and they don't. To prevent this we repent and renew our covenants by partaking of the sacrament.

Because when you are getting ready to be baptized you are taught about everything you should and should not do and when you are baptized you are also confirmed and receive the gift of the holy ghost which is the spirit that helps you decide right from wrong. So basically after you are baptized you are supposed to know better, but your not necessarily punished more.Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father are very forgiving.

Huh? I would be very curious to know in what context and where you heard that.

We are judged according to the extent of our knowledge and the covenants we have made up until the point of the sin being committed.

I would be less concerned about whether or not to get baptized and be more concerned about better understanding godly sorrow and true repentance.

because when you are baptised you know what is right and wrong and then you are held accountable for your sins

The Mormon church is a joke. If you look at their Utah holy land you will see that more and more "members" of their church are converting and/or walking away from that religion. Its built upon lies and fallacies. Even today though they claim to have one of the most populous religions in the world, their precious state is less than 50% members.

Look into their history and when you question things they will use common interrogation tactics of diverting, casting blame, and question your faith among them. Its a joke.

Good point. Mormonism thrives on guilt and shame. That is your answer.
