In Florida a few weeks ago they hauled a kindergartener off to jail in handcuffs. She had not ever been taught to respect adults and would not stop biting, kicking and hitting the teacher then the cops until she was handcuffed. They should have arrested her parents also, as there is no excuse for that behavior being tolerated.

As long as kids obey they law they don't have to worry. Oops I mean unless they are black or Hispanic.

17 here.

You can take minors younger then that into custody. But the state doesn't define it as an "arrest". I know it's just word play, but thats how it is.

Basically. Depends on the circumstances. I've hauled 10 year olds off to the police station before and waited for parents or juvenile officers. They weren't booked in or anything. But I guess for the purposes of this question, they are arrests.

Frankly, pretty much at any age. Charged with a crime, though, that differs quite a bit from one State to the next. I think the youngest I've ever heard about is a 10 year old charged with murder.

In Canada you can arrest anyone at any age, but can only charge them with an offence starting at the age of twelve.

Not all arrests end up with charges and not all charges start with an arrest.

A child can be arrested as soon as he/she is old enough to commit a crime. The age only comes into play for the trial, i.e., whether to try him as an adult or as a juvenile.

A child who committed a crime can be arrested no matter how young but he will be only tried to determine his guilt and placed under rehabilitation.
