Anyone have a recipe for brining or boraxing anchovies so they stay on the hook better? Something the fish will still eat. Thanks

Don't use briny water, just use kosher salt. Mix the anchovies in a good amount of kosher salt and let them rest for several hours.

When I was a kid we often used frozen anchovies for bait off the piers. The "fresh frozen" ones turned to mush when they thawed (we'd chop them and embed a hook in the chunks, and that worked fine), the "Salted" ones (they were also sold frozen) would hold together better. We caught plenty of fish with them, though they were mainly tomcod (white croaker), not especially desirable. But they were the most common fish out there.

I never salted anchovies myself, but I assume what Macarthur said above would work.
