what is your opinion on why there is or is not a god. I do not just want examples of things in your life, but why you think these things prove or disprove the idea of a god and organized religion

Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) French philosopher among many other things said of the question "does God exists or doesn't?"
The best is to lead a good life and if he exists you'll go to heaven, if he doesn't exists at least you will have lead a good life.
Of organized religion I can only say it's men using God as a tool
Like men using a hammer, it's great to pound nails and terrible to bash your head in.

Our lives are unexplainable (so far). People try to use religion to explain the unexplainable. Science tries to find answers to the unexplainable. Religion creates a creator, who suffers from the very same human frailties as they do (jealousy, irrationality, prejudice, and vengefulness). Religion has so many absolutely ridiculous stories that one must believe or face eternal punishment. It doesn't matter how good, moral or ethical one is; one must have blind faith or they will be punished. Some entity (God) capable of creating the universe would not be so shallow and irrationally judgmental. This entity would know that bad people lie and not expect good people to believe everything they hear of read. Why would an entity capable of doing anything find a need to torture his creations? What possible pleasure could this entity derive from such behavior? An entity capable of creating the universe would not be subject to fatigue, and have to rest for 24 hours after doing so. If there was a God, it would respect all of the qualities that are innately good in people more than something as mundane as blind faith. If there was a God, it would not have any use for a specific gender. It would not create a test based on silly criteria like blind faith. If I can see that ethics and morality are more important qualities in a human being, I’m quite sure that a God would. I could go on and on, but, books have been written that do just that and they are available in most book stores.

I guess my answer is pretty much exactly what you asked us not to do but anyways I would say life itself is proof in a higher power...otherwise what would be the point the has to be a greater scheme of things that we are here to learn for somewhere else. All the documents and so called proof can't really be considered fact being that we are human and there is room for error no matter who you are or were. I just believe it's silly to think(not that I'm judging by any means others beliefs) that this ..our life here on earth...is all we have or will ever amount to. In order for that to be true someone, something has to be guiding us!!

I am not for organized religion. God does exist if one seeks him out. To prove there is a God I can only say He has never left my side since I was very small..He does stick closer than a brother that is my own personal experience.

I believe in a god but I don't believe in relegion. Relegion is no different than Microsoft or Chase Manhattan Bank. It's a multibillion dollar business plying on the needs of poor vulnerable people. Clerics use god's name to get what they want much like politicians use the term "american people" to achieve their political ambitions and futher their personal wealth.

Romans 1: 19 Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

There are no arguments. Most R&S regulars are confident in what they believe and will continue to believe it regardless of what someone else says. :)
(Just in case you wanted to know, I believe there is a God. I do not have anymore proof than anyone else who tries to disprove it.)

Religion says that certain types of people will go to hell. Which I don't agree with. I don't think anyone deserves to go to hell. Even Hitler!! I don't believe in a heaven/hell afterlife.
Although I do believe in God. Just not religion. I'm Agnostic

Religion is man’s attempt to please their gods and control other people. Religion has rules, rituals and laws to follow. Every religion believes that they have the answers for redemption. The answers for religion lies within man’s ability to follow it’s teachings.
Jesus is God’s way to reach down to mankind with love, forgiveness, acceptance and grace. Jesus is not a religion. He is God and He is the way for man to have fellowship with God.
When we come to Jesus, we are full of the original sin nature and the sins that we have committed. He cleanses us when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and repent of those sins.
Our redemption and salvation results from Jesus’ willful and sacrificial death on the cross to take our place for our sin nature and our sins. He is the only atonement possible because He is without sin. Jesus does it for us because we are incapable of following any religion perfectly. He did follow the law perfectly.
Coming to Jesus, not religion, is what God requires for us to become forgiven, sanctified, and have the relationship with God that He intended from the start. Jesus is the only way to God.
