I'm kinda curious how you ended up with someones Bible, does he know he lost it and would he like to have it back? Usually people don't leave things behind that mean something to them. Neither here nor there, take it to your neighborhood church.

If you have no interest in keeping it, give it to someone who will use it. Either an individual or a church, something along those lines. You can donate it to Goodwill. Although I have to agree that it's pages put together, like any other book, there's no need to dispose of it as someone may find use for it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't find the Bible important, I'm a Catholic and have been taught to be respectful of the Bible. At the same time, my grandma' taught me to respect all books and if you can't use it, someone else can.

If it is a "family" Bible, with dates of birth, death, marriage, baptism etc, try to locate a family member within it. It would be considered a family heirloom for the family.

If it is a study bible, with references, notes etc that the owner took the time to study and mark, put it in your own library, sometimes someone else's studing can lead you in a new direction within your own studies.

If it is in good shape (readable), wrap it as a gift to a family or individual you meet that would need it. It might be just what they need.

I see no good or viable reason to burn it. To show respect for the author, the content, and the holiness of it's contents, it should be used not burned. Someone out there in the darkness will need it and is looking for it.

Pray over it, let the Holy Spirit direct you to who you should give it to if none of the other above solutions seems to fit.

GREAT question, by the way.

If it was blessed by a priest it should be buried or given to a church to burn. Otherwise you can dispose of it like you would any other book, though some people would shroud it in some way to disguise the fact that it was a Bible.

Throw it away... or donate it to Good Will. A bible is just an object and although it symbolizes something of importance to some people, it isn't the physical book that does.

There's nothing magical about a Bible. It's just like any book: Just a bunch of pages glued together. Don't be so superstitious! Good grief.

Back in the old days, when they kept all their legal recordings in the Bibles they had, it was pretty important to hang on to it. But no because of the contents in the Bible. If you want to hang on to the notion that the Bible of itself is the "Word of God" then maybe you have some reservations about the way you treat it. But your emotions over a bunch of paper isn't going to change the fact that it's just paper. The "Word of God" is truth, not misinterpretted translations of people that Gentile scholars thought were divine.

Donate it to a library or local church (even if it's not the version they use, I'm sure they'll take it). Any other way (throwing it out, tearing it up or any other way of destruction) is disrespectful and rude.

The Bible is a book, and as a compulsive reader I respect ALL books.

I don't know how YOU show respect.

You could donate it to the library, a used bookstore or any charity that accepts books. You could also give it to someone who you are sure would appreciate it.

If it's still readable...read it. Or, donate it to a worthy organization. If it's not readable, give it to a Church/preacher and let them take care of things from there.
