Where they withhold food and medical care to Asians seeking asylum. Even the author of Schindler's List has compared it to Nazi concentration camps.

The Territory of Christmas Island is a small, non-self-governing territory of Australia. At Australia's request, the United Kingdom transferred sovereignty to Australia; in 1957, the Australian government paid the government of Singapore £2.9 million in compensation.

Australia mistreats its refugees and has done so for years under Little Lying Johnny and his ratbags. Christmas Island is not the only prison for refugees, there are others in Sydney and at Woomera. I think the one on Nauru no longer has any prisoners.
Our treatment of refugees, our allowing David Hicks to rot and be tortured by the USA in Guantanamo Bay for five years without charge, our detention of a man without charge for 12 days and then threatening him with 25 years gaol for allegedly giving someone a SIM card all make me ashamed to be Australian at times.
Roll on the election so we can get rid of this mob of intolerant bigots.
By the way, Tom Kenneally wrote "Schindler's Ark". The name was changed for the movie.

It's part of the "Pacific solution," the name given to the Australian government policy of diverting asylum seekers to detention camps on small island nations in the Pacific Ocean, rather than allowing them to land on the Australian mainland.
Grim.

It's not a concentration camp. It is a detention centre for people trying to enter the country illegally. We have major problems because we have a vast coast line with no land borders as other countries do. USA and the UK also have these problems but because they have land borders it is easier to control. Don't judge before you have all the facts from both sides - it is a hotly debated issue in this country. The detention centres are definitely not concentration camps - that is called poetic licence.

Why does the USA run a concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba?
Both governments, US and Australian, would say it's to keep undesirables out of their countries.

What are you talking about. Australlia doesn't technically own Christmas Island. The only place worthy of being compared to Nazi concentration camps is American prisons.

Concentration camp: A place where people get concentrated.
Nothing evil about that. Would you prefer to have all those ilegal asians roaming the landscape? Nooo, we cant allow that to happen.
So, they get intercepted, sent there and later what, repatriated? God i hope so!
