While that might be true, for statistical purposes, the discussion over tithing rages on every where. I'd put it at ask God what to do, and do it.
The tithe, originally, was to support the Levites who were in charge of the upkeep of the temple, and also served as the Priests as well. They had no other means of support other than the tithe. God commanded the tithe for their welfare, and as a means to demonstrate obedience to Him. While there is no direct cut off for the tithe in the Bible, there is also no common temple to support either.
The need for giving then comes under the decision of the church group. Does the church support a full time Pastor, and his income comes from the church, then the people should give to support their pastor, and the functioning of the church.
The statistical survey you refer to only gives a percentage of those who give 10%. What about those who give 50%, or 15 %, or can only give 1%. God sees and knows the heart of all, and accepts those who are giving as they can, but with a sincere desire to please God. He is the final judge, and the thoughts of others are of no consequence.

Thank you for asking, and answering the question.
Do you really think that The Barna Research Group
is going to point us in the right direction?
Tithing is a practice that preceded the giving of The Law.
Jesus' death and resurrection fulfilled The Law, but did not do away with practices which preceded the Levitical Covenant.
Tithing is a Godly practice when it is done cheerfully, and with joy. The problem (if there is one) is the heart of the donor.
10% is a good starting point. Adjust up or down accordingly to reach that point of hilarious giving.

Here is you a little more information about tithing. The Bible indicates 10% and as God prospers you.
Some Christians give 10% and not a dime more. Others with a very low income cannot afford 10%, it would not even leave them with enough to pay rent and utilities and food for the month, but they give what they can.
Jesus also told about the Widow Woman who gave all she had to give and instructed us to take care of our Widows and Orphans, but how many churches out there, see that the elderly Widows of their congregations have enough food to eat and medicine to stay healthy. How many churches out there take care of the Fatherless or Motherless children in their congregation.
People are only human and treet giving as an obligation to God and not a Spiritual desire to help others
I think when it comes to tithing, we all fall short, and we will all face God one day and answer to Him accordingly.

i think you assume a bit much based off a verse that has no mention of tithes in it's context. Sure you could assume that, but no man can understand the mind of God. Quite honestly, if everyone in a church tithed, money wouldn't be an issue. But because we worship ourselves over God, we clinch onto our money because it serves us. We've given way to our own selfish desires in place of an unselfish God. Society promotes this idea of living for yourself, and many people have followed suit and fell into this trap. The cure isn't giving up on God, the cure is going back to doing the things God commands the church to do. From there, it takes the faith to know that if you do what God tells you to do, He will NOT let you fail.

What site are you cutting and pasting from?
Everyone should give what they want. the 10 percent is only a starting point. Some actually give more than the 10%, some give their time. Church is also run by many volunteers.
2nd Corinthians 9:7 - Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Do you give money at your church or just like to complain about Christians?

Tithing was under the old law.. in the old testament.
very third year the tithe was to go to the widow, the fatherless, and the stanger in the gate.
It wasn't all about money but included the fruit of the ground.
The church systems cheat the widows and the fatherless and the stranger in the gate out of their share.
Steven in the book of Acts complained that the widows were being neglected and he was stoned to death.
In the book of malachi the fourth chapter it asks will a man rob God? They do by not taking care of the widows.. and spending the money and fruit of the ground on theirselves.

There's nothing wrong with the theology about tithing. It was recorded in the Bible how God instructed His followers to practice tithing. If the desired result was not achieved, we cannot atribute it to the doctrine of tithing itself but to some factors. Perhaps the minister was not able to convince his members about tithing, or the members discovered that the tithes was not being used as intended.

i in my view do no longer believe we are under the regulation so some distance as tithing is going. We get to offer to the Lord's artwork, we don't would desire to. God loves a pleased giver. If i won't be able to offer ten % cheerfully, i think of it incredibly is a waste. you do no longer do it to offer factors. a 10th is now a good handbook - like 20 % is a good handbook for tipping. Then after giving what you provide as a "tithe" of your income, you may consistently provide "selections" all week long because you love to offer because you love Him. all of it belongs to Him. Spend some, save some provide some. many human beings stay like this and not in basic terms Christians. it incredibly is freeing and God seems on the heart. remember the widows mite?

People should tithe more. We are so blessed in this country, sitting on our fat butts typing on the internet. Why are we so selfish? Why do refuse to give a small portion back to God as a sign of gratitude and trust? We cannot make other people give, it is a freewill gift, but just because some people refuse, does not make it bad theology.

Well, if someone is a part of some religion, at least giving a little money for the priests, preachers or leaders of that religion is in order.
Some religions tithing is voluntary such as Catholics. Others ask for the 10% of all incomes.
