I am considering getting another dog. I currently have a medium sized mutt (whom I ADORE!) but I've been thinking for a long time about getting a smaller dog too. Don't worry, I will do PLENTY of research before I ever adopt a dog, but I'm interested in your opinions too!

I love long haired breeds and love to brush them. I have arthritis in my hip, so I can't go on long walks but I can do SOME walking. I'm looking for a friendly lap dog who can stand up to a LOT of hugging! I know most small breed dogs tend to be yappy, so if there's a LESS yappy breed, I'd love to hear about it. I'm looking for something 25 pounds or less.

I'd love to hear your suggestions!

You just described the cavalier king charles spaniel. They don't require too much exercise. All they care about is being by your side. They hardly ever bark unless they have reason too. They are naturally well mannered and eager to please making them extremeley easy to train. they are highly intelligant and make wonderful theropy dogs. They are very loving and affectinant and are ultimate lap dogs. they love to cuddle. They get along well with chidren and other pets including big dogs.

Chinese Crested.

Most people are familiar with the hairless cresteds, but they also come in a coated version called the Powderpuff. They have a long coat of hair like a "normal" dog. The hairless does have special grooming needs, but they do love to be fussed over and doted on. They vary in size, average sizes anywhere from 8-18 pounds.

They are total cuddle bugs, expecially the hairless. Some are fairly quiet and some will bark more, but I think in general, the breed is not "yappy". They are always ready to do whatever you are doing, whether its a walk, eating, car ride, cuddling. They can be zooming around your house one minute and passed out on your couch the next! They do get along well with other dogs.

I will warn you tho.. you cant have "just one" LOL almost everyone I know who has a CC, gets a second one at some point.

If you decide on this breed, there are lots of them in rescue that are looking for a permanant lap to call their own! www.petfinder.com I highly reccommend Hope's Haven and Crest-care.

Yep a Jack Russel they are sturdy little canines with the guts of an excellent canine. Or a Miniature Bull Terrier they arrive in somewhat a small length now a days. The Jacks are somewhat clever extreme power canines with the guts of a loin & innovations of monkey I swear, lol. The min Bullies are very resembling a prevalent Bull Terrier opinionated & obdurate yet unswerving as.

I personally live in a family of dacshund loves, we raise them and have 7. Dacshunds are usually loving and cheerful, but they do get back problems. I think they would be a good lap dog and are a perfect pet.
