Liberator, sure.
But he is known as the famous liberal who went against everything everyone else knew and wanted to know.
Ironic how the conservatives attack people now for having different thoughts as well. Hmmm.

Maybe I should have specified that I was talking about the States, not...other... places. lol.
And I don't believe in religion, so maybe I got the impression wrong, but...
He IS known as the famous liberal :)

Conservative Christians have always felt they have cornered the market on religious truth. if one dares to challenge their beliefs or believe differently they quickly show their fangs and do and say anything to discredit the rabble rousing sinner. When cornered on their unbelievable beliefs they will quickly tell you that Satan is speaking through you.I've often wondered why then isn't God speaking through them.

whatever Jesus stands for I stand for- and He stands for marriage between a man and a woman, and the sanctity of life-if that gets me the label conservative so be it- but I know Jesus is for these issues- and I cannot vote in a way that would dishonor my Lord. He was liberal in the sense that He does not go along with what the world wants- I don't like labeling either in the conservative or liberal sense - I just love Jesus, and most follow Him in all areas of my life- and that includes the political arena.

The word "liberal" is a concept you can't really apply to Palestine in the 1st century BC. Jesus was a radical, proposing a (presumably) non-violent overthrow of Roman rule. He was a devout Jew and in no way "liberal". The "liberals" of his day were Jews who tried to modernize Judaism to fit into Roman culture. Jesus was conservative.
Jesus' act of saving the woman from being stoned is pointed to many as his "liberal" act... but he did NOT say that adultery, prostitution or any other act was ok. That would have been liberal. He told the woman to "go and SIN no more."

Don't you know that Liberal and Conservative are points of view? I would be a liberal in Australia, and if you are a liberal in the US, you would be a conservative in Australia.
So calling someone in the rest of the world one or the other really doesn't mean much, especially if you add the factor of 2000 years to the equation.
It's funny how people will project our thinking on to everyone else's in all history. Simply amazing!

You have no sense of conservative versus liberal do you? They evolve over time and depend on your current environment.
For instance the Anglican Church was liberal compared to the Catholic. The Anglicans were conservative compared to the Puritans. The Puritans were conservative compared to the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were conservative compared to the Quakers. The Quakers were conservative compared to the Methodists. The Methodists were conservative compared to the Unitarians. The Unitarians were conservative compared to the Agnostics. The Agnostics are conservative compared to the Atheists.
It all depends what you compare it to. A liberal in 33AD may be a ultra-conservative in 1333AD. A liberal in 2007 may be a ultra-conservative in 2777.

I don't have the choice of voting for the Jesus party. I'm as conservative as I can be voting Independent or Refuse to State. I'd really like to vote the Jesus party if there was one.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Everything conservatives stand for is the direct opposite of what Jesus taught.

Christians are people too, and people believe all kinds of different things, because that is the way people are.

most politicians who say they are liberal are very very far from following the teachings of christ let alone even putting them in the same arena of comparision.
