Have the rash looked at by your dr. Some diaper rashes are really yeast infections that require prescription medicine.

I am a nurse and mom of six. It sounds like maybe you should see the pediatrician. It's possible the rash is yeast and will need an anti-fungal to get rid of it. In the meantime, frequent diaper changes and A & D Ointment will work for comfort. Use wipes for sensitive bottoms without all the additives like perfumes. As to the Pedialyte it won't hurt.

14 months seems old to just develop a diaper rash, if he doesnt have a history of them. Could be a strep rash, caused by the same virus as strep throat. They could do a rapid strep test at a clinic, may not even need to see a doc. A strep rash would need a prescription to clear it up. Also there might not be any other signs of strep throat. This past winter I had my 2 year old with strep throat (showed in throat) and my 1 year old had it with only the strep diaper rash.

When diaper rash occurs with diarrhea, my ped advised me to quit using baby wipes for the time being and use a wet washcloth with a little baby wash on it. Also, my grandmother told me to use Mylanta when my son had a really bad diaper rash. The Johnson's was my favorite brand too! I used the Mylanta and it cleared up the rash within two days! After a diaper change, just pour a little in your hand, apply to area, and let dry. Do it EVERY time! I asked my ped and he said this was perfectly ok. GOOD LUCK!!

Get a really big thing of Desitin!!! It has more zinc oxide and it works the quickest. MAke sure to change him frequently and make sure it is dry before applying the cream. Try a dry washcloth to pat it dry. I also, don't think pedialyte is a good idea at all. The more they poop, the more you have to change him, and the more irritable his rash can get. You should only try it if he absolutely needs it for nutrition or if he's constipated. Go to connectingmoms.com for advice anytime. Oh yah, if you can't afford Desitin, try corn starch as a home remedy. Good luck.

Sounds like teething...my son had the same problem. You can buy hydrocortisone in a .5% over the counter at the pharmacy without a prescription. Works like a charm...if it doesn't help...get a prescription from your Dr for a 1% solution. Worked great for me when my son was getting the teething bum rash. Soak him in the bath with baking powder to help take the sting out.

I used nothing but balmex with my second child it works well and it cleans off very easily. Use hypo wipes, and you might need to change the type of diaper you use. My son could not wear pampers. He had to have huggies.

They also make a powder lotion..... that goes on like lotion then turns into powder

they make a formula..Similac DF (diareaha formula) that helps with my son. he may have a yeast rash...in that case mix hydrocorizone cream with monistat and diaper rash oitment and use it...you can make a great diaper rash cream out of 1 tube desitin, 1 oz of Milk of magnesia, and thicken with corn starch. (given to me by ICU nurse)...bordoux butt paste is good too.
air his butt out as much as possible... let him play outside naked or play in the kitchen on a towel naked, the more fresh air the butt gets the better

My 3 yr old had that recently had to take her into ER because she ended up with an infection. They told us to go to the store and get an over the counter anti fungal and use (as gross as this sounds) yogurt on it.

Try Mylanta or some type of liquid antacid - works like a charm!!! And it is soothing. Just dab it on with a cotton ball and let it dry.
