You are blessing my socks off Ramjet with these questions.

He (Jesus) is the light for those who are blind in the truth of God and the way to God. He is the promise of eternal life with the eternal God. He is salvation unto man to reconcile them to God. He is hope to the hopeless, sight to the blind, love to the unloved, father to the fatherless. He is the missing link that man seeks after to be as one with Him who created us. He (Jesus) is the light. Atleast that is how I interpret it...lol

Jesus Christ is the light of the world in that he is truth. Whoever follows Jesus Christ will never walk in darkness, (will not want to do evil, will not walk without knowing, will know truth), but will have the light of life, Truth concerning life.

The bible is of no private interpretation. We have to take what the bible says not add our own thoughts to it.
In a math book for grade school children it will teach you that 2 +2=4. If someone wants to come along & interpret it to mean it equals 47 we would all know that it wouldn't be true. Thats the way it is with the bible. 2nd Peter 1:20-21. God is "one" & is not divided so what He says to one He says to all. No wonder we have so many different churches. Only one of them is Gods Church the rest belong to Satan the devil.

I interpret this to mean if we follow Jesus's example we will spiritually progress to the level known as heaven.Even people who have never heard of Jesus or ones that don't follow the christian religion will find heaven if they live the kind of life Jesus advocated.Either knowingly or not.I doubt any one religion has a monopoly on heaven. That's arrogant.

What "Little O Me" says is true but it still doesn't answer the question. For all I know, you may be a new convert needing understanding to a bible passage. God has gifted some of his servants to help shed light on the scriptures. But beware of who you ask because some people you ask could be giving you sugar-coated rat poison.

Now back to your question, "Morganj..." answered it best.

As for the answer from "Little O Me", it is correct that only one Church is of God. But to elaborate more, that true "Church" has no physical walls or a steeple. Instead it is the body of believers who often attend various kinds of physical Christian churches. The true Church is born-again believers around the world.

My heart sings when I hear this verse.

It is a promise of eternity, starting here on earth. A promise that says I will never be in the darkness of death, but I will have the internal light which will never extingish.

It means "If you can only fall asleep in the dark then do NOT follow Jesus, because the lights will never go out, and you'll NEVER get any rest"

I think the question we should ask ourselves is what was on Christ's mind when he said this? What did he mean?
If every single person read tis verse and took from it a different meaning we can'tall have the same meaning Christ intended. And to explain your personal, false meaning to other as if it were his message would be to lie on our saviour.
Peace.

EDIT: Like what 'Little O Me' said! He's exactly right and explained it, i think, better than i did.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:

I believe that this scripture, answers the question. I think that the word "Light" could be substituted with "Truth".or "Only Truth"
