All life is risk. To love someone is to risk being hurt by that person, to give that person a degree of power of you, yet to not take that risk, to not love, is to miss one of the greatest things in life.
When love beckons to you follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

Although this does not come from the Bible it easily could have. I believe the message here is simple but strong. We must be vulnerable and open even if it means we may be hurt by someone. A hard heart benefits no one, least of all the person who has it. God expects us to use reasonable judgment in relationships, and forgiving does not mean you go back and let the same one cut you apart with their issues. However, a purified heart, and renewed mind could mean a second chance would bring success where failure once made its home.

The answer is in the Question. To have Love ,then lose it has given one the opportunity to "feel" Love. If you never "loved" at all then you are missing out on one of the best things in life.
Peace and LOVE be with you :):):)

I think it means that its better to have experienced love and to have lost that, than never to have the experience at all. I'm not so sure. I think the person who made this quote was never dumped or cheated on...?

The joy of being loved far exceeds the hurt of losing that love.
Memories can bring great comfort.

I have a variation of the same saying .
It reads " It is better to have loved and lost, than to stay married to the psycho for the rest of your life "

I agree with it, even though the losing part bites. But some of my happiest memories are from those feelings of being "in love." Now, I can take it or leave it.
