God has been very important in my life. Therefore, I have been sensitive to society's demands in regards to materialism and the education that supports materialism. Materialism can be another form of atheism if our material efforts are not centered around our relationship and quest for God.

I have definitely broken free from materialism (it never had a strong hold on me anyway), I am sometimes forced to be around atheism but I do not feel it is being forced on me.
I don't even know what agnosticism is, so apparently there is no problem there.
I can see why you could surmise they (materialism and athesim) are being forced on our society, but I have bigger issues with "tolerance" and those who hide behind "freedom of speech" and decay in morals in general being forced upon me.......

Gee! I feel people stuff a lot of stuff down the throats of people as consumers of a product or an idea. I can not say that atheism is one of the man offenders there aren't atheist stomping grounds hanging around every neigborhood corner(churchs or other places of worship are.) Every 5 sec. there is not an Atheist bookstore springing up either. I am not dispairing about anything thing cause I have a mind and I keep my mind fixtated on the person I want to be and it works for me.

Great question and I really enjoyed reading the answers. I love watching people and how they react to this question.
As a Christian I see materialism as an empty tomb that I crawled out of many years ago. It is mostly pushed by Media advertising. I have to say I definitely have never been solicited by an agnostic and find them to be very straight forward and honest. Now what passes for atheism in R&S is Anti Christ. It is just flat out rebellion. Mostly by convicted Christians with an axe to grind with the Holy Spirit for making them feel guilty about their sin. These are your basic jerks. However, Jesus died for them and if they ever decide to come back home we will be waiting for them with open arms.
P.S. Hey look.... Here comes one now!

As an agnostic atheist, I don't think that it's fair to say that an agnostic reserves judgment, darling. My agnosticism deals solely with knowledge - it merely recognizes that it is not possible to know with certainty whether any gods exist. I don't reserve judgment...I just recognize that this is a matter of belief, not knowledge. My atheism- based on the lack of evidence for the existence of any gods - is a statement of belief, in that I don't believe in gods and I suspect that they don't exist. This does not in any way compromise or qualify my agnosticism. Since science is only about knowledge, not belief, agnosticism is the more scientific viewpoint...but it doesn't preclude belief. In this country, if anything is forced on someone it is Christianity. Atheism is usually condemned and criticized.
For example, Bill O'Reilly said that most of the athiests he knows are drug addicts or depressed, etc. And he admits that he knows only a few. Yet, by this small sample, he judges most atheists to be disturbed in some way.

These are all things that must be personal choices. You can be taught these things or exposed to them, but the final choices are your own. In my life, I was never pressured by anyone about atheism, but I was pressured about religion a few times, not by family...but by friends. My atheism was an evolution and the result of a long journey for the truth. I don't know anyone who didn't attain their atheism that way.

I struggle with desires for materialism and while I am lonely with a few dollars in a bank, when it dwindles to near-nothing I am less happy still. Materialism lights my spirits.
Agnosticism confounds my longing to be returned to the light of God. When my faith wanes, I feel foolish or mad to devote myself to God. While I would like to observe the momentum God wants me to have, I struggle so deep inside me with the principles of a life of God.

Materialism, yes. I live in America.
I was cornered into Christianity at a young age. Some still give me a hard time for leaving it.

Yes, because we "war not against flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities." The Spirit of this Age, the Spirit of the Antichrist, speaks through modern philosophies and conventional wisdom. So I know that people are influenced by the Spirit of the air which infuses itself into false philosophies, media, and peoples' thoughts. I feel the pressure and force of this, so I need to constantly return to my relationship with Christ to dwell with Him in His Truth. We are indeed living in dark times.

I don't let anyone sway my religous beleifs unless they have something legitimate. Yet materialism happens every time I turn on the T.V. Commercials and advertisments and bilboards are everywhere nowadays.
